From the Head of Primary 25.01.2020

Last Friday I flew to Kuala Lumpur to attend the AIMS (The Association if International Malaysia Schools) Primary Head’s meeting. Although meetings such as these inevitably result in time away from school, the meeting was very informative and as a new Head in Malaysia was a great opportunity for me to find out what other schools have been up to in the region. Being part of AIMS gives staff and students opportunities to come together and collaborate on a number of different levels. Only a few weeks ago, some of our Year 6 children attended the maths challenge at Alice Smith School in Kuala Lumpur and there are a number of other challenges planned for the future which I am sure we will get involved with.

On Wednesday we celebrated Chinese New Year as a school community and it was wonderful to see so many children and staff dressed in traditional Chinese colours for the event. The Lion Dance was very entertaining and enjoyed by all. On Friday Primary celebrated again during assembly time with a quiz led by the Mandarin Department, a beautiful singing performance from Chency in Year 3 and a musical performance from Ms Fan who played the traditional Chinese song Full of Joy on the Erhu.

And the winner is…

On Friday afternoon we held a much anticipated special assembly to announce the names of our new House Mascots. The tension and excitement in the air was tangible as Mrs Fletcher announced the winners.

Sulug are now the Sulug Sharks

Sapi are now the Sapi Sunbears

Gaya are now the Gaya Pangolins

Mrs Fletcher gave the children details of an exciting competition that everyone can get involved in. The challenge is to create a design for the House Mascot that will be used during sporting and other house events as well as on reusable bags. The deadline for entries is Friday 14th February and so please encourage your young artists to get creative. More details of the competition can be found on Dojo.

Wishing you all a wonderful Chinese New Year break.
