Introduction of Mandarin Chinese
KIS was delighted to announce that from the start of the 2016-17 academic year, the school is planning to introduce Mandarin Chinese as part of the curriculum. This is an initiative that the school has been considering for some years and which was recently approved by the Board of Management. While there is still work to be done to finalise all the arrangements, the school are planning to offer Mandarin to students in the Primary School, from next September. The idea is that Mandarin will then work its way up through the school in future years to IGCSE and A-Level.
To facilitate the programme, the school reports that they have already appointed a Mandarin teacher to start in September. In their planning they are looking to cater for students who are complete beginners to the language, as well as those who already speak some Mandarin at home or with grandparents. The school very much hopes that this will address the needs of many families who have expressed a strong desire to see Mandarin taught to their children
