Dear KIS Community,<\/span><\/p>\n

It has been a while since I last wrote and I hope all of our families had restful and enjoyable breaks over Hari Raya and Kaamatan. On our return to school the PTA organised a wonderful morning to celebrate both of these festivals and it really was an enjoyable occasion for the whole school. Thank you to all those involved from the PTA. Thank you also to everyone who took part in our PTA AGM. Congratulations to all members of our new PTASC and many thanks to our outgoing PTA members for the wonderful work they have done over this past year. You can read more about our outgoing \/ incoming PTA in their section of this newsletter.<\/span><\/p>\n

I was also fortunate enough to be able to attend the Year 13 Graduation earlier this week at the Sutera Harbour Theatre. We had the opportunity to celebrate their successes and wish them well as they prepare for University. We were delighted to be joined by Mr Alexander Yee as guest speaker and he spoke passionately to our graduates about the virtues of the modern world, determination in all that they do and to live life to the full.<\/span><\/p>\n

Year 6 have had the opportunity to find out more about life in the secondary school. As the oldest students in Primary prepare to transition across the playground, the secondary school welcomed them across and gave our Year 6 students the experience of already being in the secondary section with a variety of lessons and learning experiences. Talking to the Year 6s, it sounds like they enjoyed it very much, but are not looking forward to \u2018homework and detentions\u2019 apparently.<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the week members of the Primary School along with Mrs Rose have been supporting the food drive and by Friday lunch time they had collected nearly 200KG of much needed food. We were able to present this to members of the ‘Food for the Hungry’ organisation. Sophie and Sarah from Year 5 were fantastic as Ambassadors for Change and a better World. Thank you to everyone who was able to support this excellent initiative.<\/p>\n

This week ended with celebrations at both ends of the school. Our Early Years and KS1 students celebrated their swimming skills at their annual Swim Gala. Thank you to all staff who helped to make the morning so memorable for our youngest swimmers. For our older students, the Senior Prom on Friday at the Marriott will be a night to remember. After a year of working hard and studying our more senior students had the opportunity to let their hair down and dance the night away, as did some of the staff. <\/span><\/p>\n

Today, we have two events taking place at school. For all of the community we are open this morning for a Car Boot Sale, organised by the Eco-Warriors, come along and see what bargains are for sale between 9am and 11am in the Sports Hall. Also taking place, but only for staff, is a First Aid Course. Earlier this year, three of our staff were trained by PADI to be Emergency First Response Trainers.\u00a0 Many of our staff will be spending Saturday with them, developing \/ refreshing their emergency first response skills and becoming certified First-Aiders.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next week is set to be equally as busy as the Secondary students in Years 7 through 10 launch into their end of year exams. Year 12 start their work experience week, Duke of Edinburgh Silver Awards go for their Expedition, Year 2 enjoy a cosy sleepover at school and Primary students end their week with a Disco. If that wasn\u2019t enough, we have another Drop-Off and Drop-In Coffee Morning on Wednesday 19<\/span>th<\/span> where we will be discussing the use of Social Media, positives and negatives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Make sure to keep the following Saturday (22<\/span>nd<\/span>) available as the Eco-Warriors go to the beach for the third time this year for another beach clean. However, if you prefer a more indoors experience, pop along to Imago Mall where you will find KIS alongside and supporting Gleneagles Hospital at the \u2018Me, Mum and Dad\u2019 Roadshow.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, a reminder for the Borneo Warriors Summer Camp that we are hosting here at KIS during July for 7 to 11 Year olds. The earlybird discount continues for another week and there are limited spaces available.
