\n\tOn Tuesday, all of Primary from our youngest students in reception to the leaders of the school in Year 6 arrived early in the morning with plenty of energy and house spirit, looking ready to challenge themselves throughout the day in a broad range of athletic events and activities. <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe morning was a h<\/span>ive of activity as we saw the EYFS students start their day completing a range of different skill stations to show off their speed, agility, coordination and balance. A variety of different activities included an obstacle course, egg and spoon race, bean bag throw and standing long jump. The students weren’t at all fazed by the heat and did a great job of impressing their parents with all the skills that they had learnt and practiced last term. <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAlso on the field were the Year 1 and Year 2 students who started their day with some track races including a 30m sprint and a hurdles race. There were quite a few close finishes as Gaya, Sapi and Sulug all lined up against each other to see who could get to the finish line first! <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing these activities, the 2 groups swapped and the Year 1’s and Year 2’s also had a chance to compete in small teams to earn points for their house by seeing how far they could jump, throw or complete as many rounds as they could. Possibly one of the highlights of the day was watching our youngest runners make their way down the track and either jump or in some cases carefully maneuver around the hurdle obstacles in front of them. Miss Watt was very pleased to see her F2’s demonstrating their ‘hips to lips’ running style in their races. <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tWith temperatures already over 30’C by 9:30am, the smiling but very red and sweaty faces of the EYFS and Key Stage 1 students spoke volumes for how hard they had worked and the fun they had had during the day. After collecting <\/span>their participation medals all students returned to the stand for a brief rest and a House Cheer Competition led by the Year 6 House Captains.<\/span> <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tEach house did a great job in creating and teaching a team cheer to the rest of their teams that could be heard all around the stadium. It was Gaya that had the best cheer though narrowly beating Sapi for a bonus 60points. <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter saying goodbye to the lower end of the school, the sports continued for KS2. During the morning Years 3 and 4 had started with their field events and all their training and preparation during Term 2 had certainly paid off with some wonderful results and a number of new records being created. Year 5 and Year 6 had started their day with track events. Getting the challenging 800m races over first thing and then proceeding to the 60m and 100m sprints. With some very competitive students and talented athletes it was no surprise that we saw some very close finishes. Thank goodness for technology and smart phones, as the judges had to refer to video evidence on several occasions to separate runners at the finish!  <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t\"\"<\/a>At the halfway point it was Gaya narrowly leading Sapi and Sulug in 3rd place but with the changeover after the break as well as relays still to come the champion's trophy was still <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tanyone’s for the taking.<\/span> Year 5 and Year 6 then headed to the field event stations competing in shot put, javelin, long and triple jump. Again, more records fell (see the complete list at the end <\/span>of the article) and Mrs. Russell was kept very busy presenting medals to many different faces, as well as some frequent flyers!<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the track, Year 3 and Year 4 were battling the rising temperatures as they sprinted down the 60m and 100m straight. With a few missing students, some of the athletes were digging really deep into the energy reserves to fill in for missing friends to make sure their house didn’t lose valuable points.  <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAnnouncing the running points tally prior to the relays there were just 7 points separating 1<\/span>st<\/span> from 2<\/span>nd<\/span> place. However, with the relays worth double points, it was very much anyone’s competition to win. With some teams missing runners, again many students should be given extra praise and merit for running extra in order to make sure they still had a team to compete. Victories seemed to be shared out amongst the 3 houses and so it was hard to say who might have come away with the victory at the end. <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t\"\"<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tI don’t know how the students had any energy left at the end of such a highly competitive and challenging day but when the call was put out for the carnival favourite event, tug-of-war, all must have found a second wind for the final fight. <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIt was a tremendously successful day for all. It was wonderful to see the students really push themselves to achieve their best and show wonderful support for their fellow teammates. But at the end of the day there could only be one winner and in one of the closest competitions we’ve seen in the last few years it was just 3 points that separated 1<\/span>st<\/span> from 2<\/span>nd<\/span> place after all the points were tallied. <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIt was the Blue House of Sulug who let out a huge cry of joy when it was announced that they had narrowly beaten the defending champions Sapi to win the day! <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tI know I thanked many people on the day but I would again like to extend my sincerest thanks firstly to all the KIS teaching and ground staff who assisted in making sure the day ran so well and that the students were well cared for throughout the day. I would also like to acknowledge the incredible parent support! It was truly amazing to see so many parents up in the stands and down on the field to cheer on not only their own children but all the students throughout the day. A special thanks to the PTA who made sure that the staff and children didn’t collapse from heat exhaustion with a steady supply of 100Plus throughout the day. We are truly blessed to enjoy the benefits of being part of an incredibly caring and highly supportive KIS community!<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
