On Tuesday afternoon, all students in Years 7-10 filled the hall for the much anticipated Sport Education Awards Ceremony. After a term of fiercely fought competitions between the teams in each year group; the points for all the ongoing work that students had been doing, both in and out of lessons, had been tallied and finalized and the certificates for the overall winning teams and individuals were ready to be presented.<\/p>\n
One of the main principles of Sport Education is that it is predominantly student led, and as such it was the students who ran the show with the Sport Council reps from Year 7-10 announcing the nominations and winners for each of the award categories. Many of the teams were proudly displaying their team uniforms while other teams chose to accessorize with head bands or in Pisang Goreng\u2019s case, some interesting artwork attached to their shirts.<\/p>\n
MC\u2019s Tiggy and John; along with the other Sport Council reps of Nicholas, Trinity, Marc, Margot, Darrell and Celeste, were wonderful in their roles and like any good awards show there was even a little build of suspense in the final moments before announcing the overall Sport Education Champions for 2019 with the award envelope briefly disappearing!<\/p>\n
The Sport Education Model is invaluable in teaching students key \u2018Social\u2019 and \u2018Personal\u2019 skills that are transferable across all aspects of their school life. The PE Department would like to congratulate not only the students who received nominations and awards in the different categories but also extend their praise to many other students in Years 7-10 who applied themselves in learning new skills, placed themselves outside their comfort zones to develop their confidence in leading others or simply working cooperatively with teammates who they may not normally choose to work with.<\/p>\n
