Everyone is welcome to drop by!<\/p>\n<p>The announcement for Pillars of Sabah 2 was released early last month on social media, expressing the need to recruit 30 artists to be part of the upcoming event. The original Pillars had focused on 30 individuals who made an impact on the local community, with artists painting portraits of these contributors. In this second installment, the theme shifted onto our Sabah wildlife, in particular to bring awareness to the local endangered species.<\/p>\n<p>I knew I had to apply the second I saw the ad. I just never expected to be selected. The artistic community in KK contain such experienced and talented artists, I felt like I would not have supplemented to this cause. I remember receiving that email in history class all those weeks ago. I could not have been more conflicted, with this daunting yet exciting task that lay ahead of me. I had not taken art since Year 9, only ever painting occasionally when I felt like it. I was not prepared for the challenge, but can anyone ever be?<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to pick a lesser known animal for my pillar, not the usual orangutan or pygmy elephant. If I was to bring awareness to an endangered species it might as well be one that no one knows of. My love for cats led to decide on the Bornean Flat Headed Cat, a small and unusual feline. This member of the cat family is decreasing in numbers principally due to water pollution, and highlighting this threat they face just might pave the way towards their salvation.<\/p>\n<p>A special thanks to Ms. Yuen who was immensely generous with both her time and her suggestions. She also allowed me to attend a few sessions of her Photoshop club and without her I doubt I would have been able to do just as good a job.<\/p>\n<p>Experiencing the chance to meet and to get to know many accomplished artists has truly been a fascinating opportunity. Especially getting to work with the famous artist and founder of the Pillars of Sabah &#8211; Red Hong Yi. I feel really grateful to be able to participate in such an event, to be part of a group of people so dedicated to improving our city, a group so willing to use their skills in making a change. The student organisers are passionate about international relations, global citizenship and leadership. Hosted by Concordia International School Bangkok, THAIMUN is committed to providing an immersive educational experience for high school students from the South East Asia region and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>THAIMUN is dedicated to teaching, inspiring and connecting students from across the world. THAIMUN is also dedicated to creating an informed, intimate and lively forum for debate about a range of fascinating global topics. From the Civil War in Yemen to the fight against ISIS, delegates will learn about fascinating and relevant issues while practising their public speaking, negotiation and critical thinking skills.<\/p>\n<p>THAIMUN teaches students about the UN rules of procedure and international relations by providing insights into pressing global issues and by offering a forum to discuss possible solutions. Student leaders at THAIMUN are selected after a competitive application process.
