Our Silver Duke of Edinburgh\u00a0team completed their qualifying Adventurous Journey on June 13th; the culmination of many weeks of planning, organisation, and preparation. Isabella, Kaori, Kate, Wesley, and Sandro (Year 11), spent 3 days trekking through the beautiful countryside around the Sabah Tea Gardens, supported and supervised by Mr Colbeck, and assessed by Mrs\u00a0Colbeck.<\/p>\n
Carrying 3 days\u2019 worth of food and equipment with them, they successfully navigated and hiked through the plantations, their trek taking them through the idyllic scenery around Mount Kinabalu, and along some of the historic Ranau-Sandakan Death March route of World War II. They also toured the British and Anzac Memorials, researching details for the ‘purpose work’ component of the award, designed to ensure participants take a deeper look at the world around them.<\/p>\n
The group also had a chance to tour the tea factory, learning what goes into making a simple cup of tea, and also got to try their hand at tea picking! They\u00a0had the opportunity to practice their blowpipe skills in the evenings, and to create some batik fabrics. This was only when they had finished cooking their meals, cleaning up, and preparing for the following day.<\/p>\n
All the Silver team members worked very hard for this Adventurous Journey; cooking, cleaning, problem solving, map reading, and working closely as a team. A very satisfying (and exhausting!) trip!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
