teaching?<\/strong><br \/>\n14 enjoyable years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When did you join KIS?<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is my third year at KIS \u2013 I joined in August 2015.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where did you teach before joining KIS?<\/strong><br \/>\nI taught in Bangkok before moving to Kota Kinabalu, and I taught in the UK before that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What makes KIS unique?<\/strong><br \/>\nOur dedicated staff team, supportive parents and our fantastic students make KIS a positive place to be.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why did you decide to focus on Early Years in your teaching career?<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Early Years are the very foundation of a child\u2019s education. If you encourage children to be excited about learning new things from the start, then you nurture confident, enthusiastic learners later in life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Describe a memory from your time at KIS<\/strong><br \/>\nI have many, but I am unlikely to forget the time that a Year 1 child attempted to teach me how to skateboard during a Show and Tell session. Having established that my balancing skills were not great, it was suggested that I tried to \u201cskateboard on my belly\u201d &#8211; much to the amusement of the Year 1 children!<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you think an international education has benefitted your own children?<\/strong><br \/>\nMy children view the world as a very small place as they have friends from all over the globe. They have experienced so many wonderful things through an international education and understand the beauty of diversity. They are very lucky girls.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is your favourite classroom resource and why?<\/strong><br \/>\nThat is a difficult question, but I think that I would select our Role Play resources as they offer so many opportunities to children. Role Play encourages communication, develops social skills and gives children the chance to apply new knowledge and skills within a safe environment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parents often worry about how their young children will settle into their first school, what advice would you give them?<\/strong><br \/>\nAlthough natural, parents often end up worrying more than the children in my experience. My advice would be to remember that teachers have your child\u2019s best interests at heart. We want your child to enjoy their time at school and will always work closely with parents in order to make sure that happens.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you could be a character from a favourite book enjoyed by your Foundation students, who would you be and why?<\/strong><br \/>\nI would be the caterpillar from The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. The very hungry caterpillar munches through chocolate cake, ice-cream, a lollipop, cherry pie and a cupcake (along with other things!) without an ounce of guilt and is rewarded by becoming a beautiful butterfly. This sounds like a very good deal to me\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you enjoy about living in Sabah?<\/strong><br \/>\nWhat isn\u2019t there to enjoy \u2013 except maybe the rush-hour traffic? Sabah has jungle, mountains, beautiful beaches and an abundance of wildlife.
