Before the end of term a\u00a0very excited Year 6 spent 3 days in Secondary.\u00a0The aim was to give the students a taste of what Secondary School is like; it is very different to their Primary School experience, not least in the way that things are organised. The school day is different, with a 3pm finish, students have to change rooms every hour and go to 6 different specialist lessons, books and equipment have to be carried with them, they need to take their Secondary Diary to every lesson and they have to get used to being given homework every day.<\/p>\n

Their first day in Secondary started off with an assembly to talk about the Secondary School and what they might expect during the three days of their transition programme. The students had been well prepared by their Year 6 teachers and they went off confidently to their first lesson, either Art or English, armed with a mini-diary, Secondary exercise books, the timetable and carrying their bag filled with essential equipment. Despite some fears that students might lose their way around school, they were very sensible and made sure that nobody was left behind. They enjoyed a range of lessons, from Drama to Science, and the teachers had designed work that the students very much enjoyed.<\/p>\n

The transition to Secondary can also be daunting for parents! Therefore parents were invited to attend a meeting\u00a0where Mrs Renshaw, Head of Secondary, presented information about the Secondary School to them. Sometimes these transition stages in our children\u2019s lives can be more stressful for parents than their children, who quite often take things in their stride with no problem at all!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
