{"id":4365,"date":"2015-10-27T11:04:25","date_gmt":"2015-10-27T03:04:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kis.edu.my\/kisnewsletter\/?p=4365"},"modified":"2015-10-29T11:04:38","modified_gmt":"2015-10-29T03:04:38","slug":"year-5-visit-sabah-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kis.edu.my\/kisnewsletter\/year-5-visit-sabah-museum\/","title":{"rendered":"Year 5 Visit Sabah Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Year 5 had a fantastic trip to the Sabah Museum on Friday, the 23<sup>rd<\/sup> of October as part of our \u2018History of Sabah\u2019 topic. After starting the day with a group photograph, we paid a visit to the traditional long houses. Whilst here the students not only learnt about how different ethnic tribes lived, but they were able to buy souvenirs, something they particularly enjoyed! One of our favourite houses was the long house with the trampoline. We had so much fun trying it out and learning about the cultural games played by the local tribes in the process.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the day was dedicated to exploring the museum itself. The students had to undertake a treasure hunt and find as many answers to questions about the history of Sabah as they could in order to earn House Points. Time flew as we explored various aspects of the history of Sabah, including the bone-chilling head-hunting practices of the local tribes, the changes evoked by the Western world and the impact of World War 2. We also learned all about the local musical instruments and agricultural tools used by people of Sabah.<\/p>\n<p>We ended the day exploring the first floor of the museum, where we observed artifacts evidencing marine trade around Sabah. The students particularly loved exploring the rainforest section of the museum, learning about interesting animals and local plants containing healing properties.<\/p>\n<p>Our time at the museum was an enriching, engaging experience that lent much to our in-class learning about the history and cultures of Sabah.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Year 5 had a fantastic trip to the Sabah Museum on Friday, the 23rd of October as part of our \u2018History of Sabah\u2019 topic.
