This important day was developed by the founder of the non-profit organisation, Peace One Day, Jeremy Gilley.\u00a0 In the late 1990\u2019s Mr Gilley created a documentary\u00a0 to establish an annual day of ceasefire and non-violence. In 2001 Peace One Day\u2019s efforts were rewarded when the member states of the United Nations unanimously adopted the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on 21<sup>st<\/sup> September \u2013 Peace Day.<\/p>\n<p>An important day on the academic calendar, KIS students marked this day through a number of in class and school wide activities. Throughout the school students came to school wearing white and Primary students undertook a range of activities in their classrooms to promote their understanding of the day. The culmination of this work was a Primary Assembly held at the end of the school day, where students from each year group were able to talk about how the work they had completed had helped their knowledge on the importance of Peace Day.<\/p>\n<p>The PE department organised the \u2018Try for Peace\u2019 event, the aim of which was to play friendly games of tag-rugby in the name of peace, the focus being on fair play, friendship and fun.<\/p>\n<p>Students in Key Stage 2 (Years 3 \u2013 6) had the opportunity to sign a team up for a lunch time tournament and over 65 students participated on the day. Although this was the first time many of them had played a full tag-rugby game, everyone enjoyed the competition and played in the spirit of the day.<\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon all students from Year 7 \u2013 11 took part in their own tag-rugby tournaments split into 2 groups: Years 7 &amp; 8 and Years 9, 10 &amp; 11. The teams played in a knock-out round and then enjoyed a tense final to decide the winners of the tournament. But the day was not about the winning team, and everyone enjoyed themselves whatever the results.
