[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The days seem to be rushing past in a blurry haze as we rapidly approach the end of this Academic year. Yet, we continue to see students out representing KIS in their chosen areas of sport, challenging themselves to achieve their best, learning and growing so much from the experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n

Good luck to the many students who are diving into the challenge of competing against the best swimmers across Sabah at the 56th Sabah Invitational Age Group Swimming Championships being held from Friday 14th-Sunday 16th at Likas Aquatic center.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have students from Year 3 all the way up to Year 10 taking part with their respective swim clubs and we wish them all the best of luck as they work towards achieving their personal goals whatever they may be!<\/span><\/p>\n

MSSD Basketball – Tournament report<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"\"As mentioned last week, our girls basketball team performed outstandingly at the recent U18 MSSD basketball tournament to place 3rd. Finishing 3rd in a KK wide schools tournament is already an impressive feat, but when you consider that our team was made up only of students from Years 7-10 with the youngest player being Dain at 13 facing off against 18 year olds This achievement is even more impressive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We played four games in total during the tournament; our first matchup was with St. Francis Convent. The game was won by us 51-16. We played our next game at 2 p.m. against All Saints later in the afternoon. Even though the first game left a lot of us exhausted, I saw that the entire team was giving the warm-ups and drills their best before the games, which is a true testament to how hard this team works. It was a great good start to the first day of MSSD, and we also won the game convincingly which put us in a good position going into the 3rd final round robin game.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Everyone was quite nervous the following day since we were playing Kian Kok, our competitors from the U15 Spritzer Cup, where we had defeated them and placed third last time. After building a lead in the first two quarters, the game became extremely close in the fourth. Unfortunately, in the end, we were defeated by two points. But because we won two of the three games, we had to face Tshung Tsin in the semifinals next. <\/i><\/i><\/p>\n

We were leading in the first quarter of our game against Tshung Tsin, so it was going pretty well, but in the end, we lost. Our next game was against Kian Kok again in an hour since we had to compete for 3\/4th place after losing to Tshung Tsin. We were more ready and focused on winning this time. Our game unexpectedly went into overtime, lasting one hour and thirty minutes in total. Our scores were really close, and the game was close throughout all three quarters. Sophie made three consecutive 3-pointers while I was fouled more than five times in the fourth quarter and had many free throws. We fought really hard and finished in third place, winning them by more than 16 points.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Our team’s strengths were our offensive fast break plays, steals, and rebounds were its strong points. Coach Andrew’s shouting from outside the fence and his guidance, even when we couldn’t hear him at all, were our main source of motivation. We couldn’t have succeeded if not for everyone’s determination and cheerful attitude.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

We are honored to have competed on behalf of KIS in this tournament and to have placed third. We look forward to continuing to grow and succeed more in the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

MSSS Gymnastics<\/strong><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

More success for KIS in the MSS sporting arena this week came through the brilliant achievements of Camelia in Year 4 who traveled all the way to Keningau for the MSSS (Sabah Schools State Championships) to compete in the Rhythmic Gymnastics Club apparatus event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
