[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This week it has been a pleasure to meet some new applicants to our school. Our admissions process, managed by Ms Tina Koroh, has stood the test of time, with the addition this year of free trial days, where potential applicants can come and have \u2018taster\u2019 days at KIS. Feedback from those young people who then went on to formally apply to the school has been very positive. They have been reassured by the warm welcome that they have received from students and teachers. I am sure we can all remember feeling somewhat nervous at starting a new school. Even the move from Primary to Secondary can be somewhat daunting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From the 18<\/span>th<\/span> to the 20<\/span>th<\/span> June we will be holding our Year 6 to 7 Transition Days. The idea behind these days is to allow Year 6 students to become a somewhat familiar with how Secondary \u2018works\u2019 before they move into that section of the school in August. During the three days the students will experience Secondary lessons, moving around the school from classroom to classroom, meeting a range of specialist teachers and becoming familiar with homework, lockers etc. This experience works both ways, with Secondary teachers getting to know the Year 6 students who they may be teaching next year. In the assembly at the start of the three days we talk to the students about what to expect in Secondary, and they have the opportunity to ask any questions. Our Year 6 teachers prepare them for this beforehand by encouraging their students to write down any questions or concerns. These are then passed to the Secondary team and it makes the question and answer session run very smoothly. Following the students\u2019 assembly, we have the parent meeting and we encourage all Year 6 parents to attend. This again is an opportunity for the Secondary team to outline what happens in Secondary, and for parents to ask questions. If you are a Year 6 Parent, make a date in your diary: Tuesday 18<\/span>th<\/span> June @ 9am!<\/span><\/p>\n

Wednesday 8<\/b>th<\/b> May: Coffee Morning: Homework & Supporting students with Learning at Home<\/b><\/p>\n

Next Wednesday we are pleased to be offering the latest in our series of coffee morning. This time Ms Beresford, Head of Key Stage 3, will be presenting all about how to support student learning at home, and how to help your child manage their homework. Collaboration between home and school can only be a good thing, and we hope to see many parents at this event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From the Eco Warriors: Well done Gaya!<\/b><\/p>\n

By all accounts this was a fierce battle, with Eco Warriors and House leaders from all sides making sure that students ate as much as they possibly could in order to save wasting food. <\/span><\/p>\n

In other news, The Eco Warriors are looking to collect clippings of herb or vegetable plants for our garden near the cafe. Please get in touch with\u00a0<\/span>mmcpherson@kis.edu.my<\/span><\/a>\u00a0or simply leave any plant clippings with the guards to pass on to us to plant!<\/span><\/p>\n
