A quick google search of the year of the dragon tells me that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the dragon is associated with incredible strength, positive transformation, and challenges.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> On Monday the 19th following the break, our U13 FOBISIA team departed for Thailand to compete against 6 other schools across Thailand. I hope that they will be able to utilise the strength of the dragon to tackle whatever challenges are presented to them and I am also confident that their experience in such a trip will bring with it positive transformations, whether in their sporting skills, personal development or growth as global citizens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We wish the following students all the best of luck in achieving their goals at the upcoming competition and I\u2019m confident that they will represent KIS with a great deal of distinction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Girls: Ashlyn (Captain), Isabelle, Boey, Janice, Amy, Tapashya, Shenee, Charlotte &amp; Dain<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boys: Justin (Captain), Kayden, Lung Ip, Seth, Javier, Ryan, Alden, Devon, Bryan, Jin Wei, Hei Ket, Hayden, Eden, Jonah<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A huge thank you to the staff who will be accompanying the students and supporting them in all their endeavours Mr Richie, Mr, Denyer and Ms Beresford. A special thanks to Mr Richie and Mr Denyer for all their efforts in training the team throughout the course of the last few months and making sure that the students are well prepared and feeling confident in themselves and the team&#8217;s abilities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>U13 FOBISIA Basketball Invitational Report &#8211; Sunday 4th February<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">KIS hosted a tremendously exciting and enjoyable basketball tournament on Sunday. The Vipers faced a good opponent in Simon Fung in the opening match but it was pleasing to see the girls become more comfortable and confident in passing and moving with the ball as the match went on.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the second round, Simon Fung played St Francis in a very hotly contested match that perhaps would have suited a larger court space. There was a tremendous amount of noise coming from both teams \u2018camps\u2019, as the game swung from one end to the other. It was Simon Fung who took out the match in the end with a junior state player making the difference.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The final match of the girls group was between KIS Vipers and St Francis. The sun had finally dried out the court and we were able to move outside. The heat and humidity imposed on both teams was tough to deal with and KIS found themselves facing a physically aggressive opponent. The girls did extremely well with Ashlyn executing some lovely lay-ups and Isabelle led the scoring with 10 points. KIS were able to clinch the game 15-14 at the end leading some celebrations from the team. Special thanks to Mabel for also helping out the team during the tournament as they were down a player.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Girls Placings:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1st Place &#8211; Simon Fung<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2nd Place &#8211; KIS Vipers<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3rd Place &#8211; St Francis<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sun was quite strong by the time the boys took to the court for their first game. The KIS All Stars which was a small (but skillful) team composed of Thomas &amp; Alya (Year 5), Raphael (Year 6) and Arthur, Lucas C and Oswald (Year 8) took on Simon Fung. It was a fantastic match and dispute Simon Fung having the advantage of having played together as a team before, the All Stars did a great job in applying a lot of defensive pressure and were also able score a few good baskets themselves. In the end it was Simon Fung though that took out the win 16-9.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_video link=&#8221;https:\/\/youtu.be\/TN6m5-6bPfc&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second match really got the crowd on their feet as the KIS Vipers faced off against Simon Fung. Despite some possibly tired legs causing some players to cramp up, Simon Fung had the early advantage and the lead. However, full credit to the Vipers, they fought back to within a couple of points in the last couple of minutes of the last quarter. With less than a minute to go, Jin Wei found himself with the ball in his hands outside the 3 point line and launched it towards the basket &#8211; swoosh! Nothing but net and the KIS crowd went wild! The Vipers managed to rotate players in and out to give everyone game time and valuable experience to learn from which was the main objective of the tournament ahead of FOBISIA. The All Stars were phenomenal in their efforts with just one sub. Thomas led the charge with many a fast break ending with a successful lay-up while Artur was the star of the All Stars with his all round play and shooting. Oswald also ensured that defensively the All Stars were well covered. Final score of the match 22-14 to the All Stars which meant every team finished with a win.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boys Placings: Determined by point difference after all teams had one win<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1st Place &#8211; Simon Fung<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2nd Place &#8211; KIS All Stars<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3rd Place &#8211; KIS Vipers<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A huge thank you to all those who assisted on the day including our school nurse Ms Mosigun, members of the PTA for selling ice-creams, Kris from Colour Meals for opening up the cafe to keep us caffeinated and other staff members for giving up their time to come down and support. It was also lovely to have a number of parents, both from KIS and the other schools in attendance supporting their children and teams.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019d also like to acknowledge the efforts of some of our wonderful Year 10 students. Joe, Leroy, Caleb and Tony who are used to being on the basketball court had the opportunity to learn what it\u2019s like to be a part of the game in a different capacity as referees. A very difficult task, but they handled themselves extremely well even in spite of some critical questioning from the coaches and supporters on the sidelines. Thank you also to Pui San and Haylie for assisting with scorekeeping duties. It is fantastic to see the older students supporting the next generation of sporting talent at KIS.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Term 3 we will look to host a final tournament for our Primary Vipers before their competition in April\/May.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Liga SupaRimau Season A &#8211; Round 2 Weekend Wrap-Up<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under 8\u2019s Match Report:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I had the pleasure of assisting our youngest Viper Footballers on Saturday as they took on KKFC B in their match. I certainly got my steps in and my watch probably clocked it as a major workout based on my elevated heart rate throughout the match.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our Vipers applied pressure right from the outset, confining the opposition in their own half and creating many chances. Parents and coach were left throwing their arms in the air each time the ball seemed to narrowly miss and evade the back of the net. Dispute the constant pressure, it wasn\u2019t until the 3rd quarter when Eden finally scored our first goal and celebrated in true striker style. More attacking play from Eden and Jos<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00e9 resulted in some wonderful opportunities and more goals. Anytime KKFC managed to break through our first line, Ian, Cato and Philip were there to block their attack. Lee En taking on the tough task of goal keeper was also always at the ready and stopped many a chance on goal. Seojin, Victor and Emir work incredibly hard all over the pitch as well. It was great to see some understanding of positioning as well as passing between the players.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the end it finished 4-0 to KIS Vipers which is the Under 8\u2019s first recorded win in Liga. Happy Days and I am sure the team will continue to improve throughout the season as they are only just at the beginning of their football journey. Well done to all players for their efforts in getting the win but special mention to Eden the \u2018hat trick hero\u2019!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_video link=&#8221;https:\/\/youtu.be\/FtqFiFRvXrI&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Under 10\u2019s Match Report<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Early on Saturday morning, the U10 Vipers Football met Coaches Bromley &amp; Dobbs for a battle at the Likas Stadium 4G pitch against Kebal Academy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After a tough match the previous week, the players were eager to put in a good performance. The match was very evenly contested in the early stages but gradually our midfielders, Isaac, Arlo &amp; Xavier, started to dominate possession and field position. Getting the go-ahead goal though eluded us and we went into the first interval 0-0.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Early in the second period, we had a barrage of attack down the left flank with one of them creating a scramble in front of their goal. Our players were quickest to re-act with Isaac poking the ball home for a 1-0 lead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The third period started brightly for us and we won a free on the right wing in a threatening position. Kebal set up a three-man wall but it was powerless to fend off the drilled shot Xavier struck which went around the wall and through the keeper, 2-0!!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We were very unlucky not to score more as the Kebal keeper made two spectacular diving saves from further Xavier pile-driving free kicks. Meanwhile, Arlo sent over a well-struck volley from a tight ring wing angle which clipped the underside of the bar, the post, the ground and then the keeper before being cleared. Unfortunately, Coach Bromley&#8217;s calls for VAR fell on deaf ears. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A fantastic result and the first win for the team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under 14\u2019s Match Report<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was the start of the season for the Under 14\u2019s, playing for the first time on a full sized pitch and 11-a-side. First hald ended 0-4 with some great defensive blocks and some glimpses of attacking strength. Unfortunately, the step up to the large pitch meant that a lack of fitness and field positioning resulted in a tough second half. Despite the defeat, the players kept their heads up and showed a positive fighting attitude leading to a couple of goal opportunities.
