[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It has been a wonderful week, seeing students and staff return to school refreshed after a well-deserved holiday break. We kicked off the week with a Secondary assembly in the hall, and as part of that we welcomed our new students and the new member of our teaching team, Ms Bearman. They received a traditional warm welcome of applause from our students and staff, with all of our best wishes for a successful and enjoyable career at KIS. In addition we hailed our Year 11 students, who for the next two weeks will be taking their IGCSE Mock Examinations. These exams are important, and are designed to replicate the protocols and regulations which they will experience in the actual exams in May \/ June. Undoubtedly the Mocks will contain an element of stress for our students, but they are well prepared and have worked very hard since they started their courses at the beginning of Year 10. Teachers, in marking the papers, will be able to assess where revision needs to be targeted during the coming months so that the students will achieve their full potential in the final exams.<\/p>\n

The next stage for Year 11, after IGCSEs, are A Levels in Years 12 and 13, and it will soon be time for the students to consider which subjects they would like to choose for the final stage of Secondary education. As part of a comprehensive programme which we provide for both students and parents, Mrs Colbeck, our Careers Guidance Counsellor, is organizing presentation and discussion sessions for parents. These are happening next week; read on to find out more about them.<\/p>\n

Whilst Year 11 will soon be making choices about A Levels, Year 9 students are thinking about the subjects they will be choosing for their IGCSEs in Years 10 & 11. On Tuesday this week we held our traditional IGCSE Options Fair in the school hall. The students had the opportunity to speak to Heads of Department and current IGCSE teachers about the content and expectations of each subject. They could also speak to some of our Year 12 students to find out what taking specific subjects had been like from their point of view when they were in Years 10 & 11.<\/p>\n

At KIS we run a comprehensive and detailed programme, led by Mr Bromley, so that each student [and parent] is fully informed of the possibilities and the mechanism for making the correct choice<\/p>\n

Yesterday we had House Colour Day, and it was great to see everyone proudly dressed in their House colours. Thank you to Mr Ghanbari for organizing this fun event to finish the school week!<\/p>\n

A Level Options Evening 16th January 2024 at 5 pm<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Many of you are already making plans for the next steps in your, or your children\u2019s,\u00a0 academic futures, and so I wanted to cordially invite you to attend the A Level Options Meeting on Tuesday 16th January at 5pm, or the Coffee Morning (just for parents or guardians to attend) on the same topic, on Wednesday 17th January at 8am.<\/strong> It is important to begin the process of planning for the future early and so it would be beneficial for all Year 11 \/ Year 10 students and parents \/ guardians to attend in order to make informed choices. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions, and learn about the structure of the courses, as well as details of the generous scholarships and loyalty discounts available.<\/p>\n

We will be sharing information about why A Levels at KIS are such a good option for International students, and why they are such valuable qualifications. Our A Level programme has a strong history of success and proven track record of excellent academic results and University placements. Perhaps even more importantly, our Sixth Form is at the heart of the KIS family, offering superb opportunities for leadership and super curricular enrichment for our students, a valuable edge in a competitive world of higher education.<\/p>\n

Each A Level teacher has also created a short video containing the syllabus details of each A Level course we offer, as well as information on which subjects are useful for particular degree courses. These videos will be available for you to watch soon on the KIS website and access details will be shared when they are all ready for viewing. The 2024 – 2025 A Level brochure will also be shared with you as soon as it is published over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n
