Science Day was a great success across the school, with the theme of ‘Space Exploration’ – inspired\u00a0by the fact that no-one has set foot on the moon since KIS began 50 years ago.\u00a0 Mr Davies added excitement for primary students with an exciting assembly\u00a0featuring explosions, fire and a long sugar snake to get the day off with a bang.<\/div>\n

Year 6 joined KS3 students in meeting one of five space themed challenges. They spent the previous few weeks designing rockets, robots, space buggies and displayed them to the school community during the Science Fair. They then tested them in front of the rest of the school on the morning of Science Day. Some were more successful than others,\u00a0but it provided the students with the opportunity to design, adjust and engineer their ideas to meet the challenges and have lots of science related fun.<\/div>\n

In classes, EYFS and KS1 explored crater impact, made straw rockets to see who could make one that flew far and created some marbled planets artwork. KS2 tried to land space explorers safely in new territory – some through parachuting and others through making landers that had to keep the space explorers inside the vehicle. They also tried to think about which rockets would fly the furthest, using bottles and tubes to push air in order to launch them.<\/div>\n
