[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Well, we\u2019ve made it to the end of Term 2 and we can all now have a well-deserved rest!<\/span><\/p>\n

What a way to end the term, with an amazing Sports Day! A new venue but I think you will all agree, one that worked really well. The children had a fantastic time competing in all the different events and it was wonderful for me to be able to give out so many medals to our hard working students. Well done to them all for competing with such enthusiasm and team spirit. A huge thank you to Ms Watt and the PE department for all the planning and organising that went into this event. As well, thank you to those parents who came along to support.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There were lots of trips and a Showcase this week\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

EARLY YEARS TRIP TO TAME EDUCATION CENTRE<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Monday 20th March, the Early Years students went on a school trip to the TAME Education Centre in Tanjung Aru. As we waited to get on the bus, we were looking forward to a busy day full of activities linked to the children’s interests. Once there we met Henry, Michael and Tressie who did a variety of activities with us. We followed Henry’s instructions to make our own tie-dye t-shirts. They turned out beautifully! We listened carefully to Michael (an insect specialist) telling us about his collection of tiny creatures and then showed our curiosity and bravery by holding some of them! We learnt about glass and plastic recycling from Tressie who works with Happy Plastic and Carlsbot. It was fun to create our own magic name tags and then use recycled glass sand to decorate our pictures. We were very thankful to have some fabulous parents who came along to support us and thanks to the collaborative effort from the team at TAME, everyone in Early Years had a fun and fulfilling trip and were all ready for a snooze on the way back to school. The children were an absolute credit to our KIS community, behaving like true Global Citizens as they explored the world around them. We can’t wait to have more adventures in Term 3!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

YEAR 3 RESIDENTIAL TRIP TO OBS<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On Tuesday, Year 3 set off on the trip of a lifetime; their first residential. There was a mix of excitement (mainly the children) and nervousness (mainly the parents). During their two days of activities, the children showed just why residential trips of this sort are so important. They pushed themselves beyond their limits. There were tears, but they fought through the tears to achieve more than they thought was possible of themselves. They also worked hard building teamwork and camaraderie. And they ate… boy did we all eat!! By the time we left, the children may have looked the same (although a little more dirty) but inside, they were stronger for their experience. More confident. More secure in themselves and in each other. Well done Year 3. An amazing effort that made all of your teachers proud.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

YEAR 4 TRIP TO RASA RIA<\/strong><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Year 4 trip to Rasa Ria was a perfect blend of fun and education allowing our students to learn in a unique and engaging way! The activities we undertook were carefully designed to launch our Term 3 topic; Rainforest Rangers. Highlights of the trip included our jungle trek, canopy bridge walk, tree planting and honey tasting! The students have all got wonderful memories from the day and we can\u2019t think of a better way to share our trip highlights with you than by sharing some of the individual reflections written by the students themselves!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I had a brilliant day at Rasa Ria! My favourite part of the field trip was when I got to try new honey. It tasted a bit weird but I wanted more and more! It was so addicting and I thought it was delicious, even though some was a bit bitter.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

My favourite part about Rasa Ria was my experience with the bridge. I was scared at first but when I was done, I was proud of myself. When we continued our walk through the jungle I got to see where we had been on the bridge and how high it was. I was very proud!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I had a great day at Rasa Ria. I love the stingless bee honey because it was sweet and sour. I went hiking and I saw a green viper. After, I went to the canopy bridge. I was a little bit terrified but I managed to cross the canopy bridge without any help! It was quite bumpy but it was an exciting experience.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The year 4 trip was amazing! Everything was awesome until the part where a spider jumped on me! (I have a huge phobia of spiders). We were so lucky to witness a snake on a tree. We were also so lucky that it rained after we left and that would water the adorable baby mangosteen tree we planted!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I had a fascinating time in Rasa Ria. My most favourite part is the canopy bridge walk and the jungle hike. I adore the hike because we saw different creatures. I love the canopy bridge because I had fun facing my fears!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

I had fun going to Rasa Ria, especially drinking the honey we drank. It was so nice! We were so scared but I went first to drink from it! A bee landed on my hand when we were drinking.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Going on our trip to Rasa Ria was delightful! It was great to see the beautiful view on the bus with my friends. When we arrived I met my ranger Zarul. He led us to the start of the jungle and we saw a viper snake that was camouflaged. In the middle of our trip to the jungle we went to the canopy bridge even though I was afraid of heights!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

YEAR 6 WORLD WAR 2 SHOWCASE<\/strong><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Wednesday, parents and other year groups were invited to experience a World War Two showcase created by Year 6 in the MPR.\u00a0 The children showed their impressive research skills and presented their learning in such creative and wonderful ways, which saw many smiling faces and many who were heard to say “I didn’t know that”.\u00a0 Even Dr Gross gave a recount of memories he had been told about his grandmother’s house still standing after a bomb raid but the house next door had been destroyed.\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

During the showcase, the children had a wide range of fun activities for all to enjoy as well as teaching facts about various topics relating to WW2 from matching the military hats to the country, observing the impressive hand-made aircraft carriers and other ships and also a marble run to meet the various leader from the allies and axis powers. Mrs Beresford enjoyed trying to help crack an Enigma code-breaking activity and Mrs Colbeck was impressed by the detail that had been shown in the 3D Anderson shelters that had been created in class.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

During the showcase, the Year 6 team treated the parents to an air raid siren, where an ARP warden ensured everyone were under tables and safe whilst the siren was going.\u00a0 He then gave the all clear as it was now ‘safe’!\u00a0\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Well done Year 6, it was a super effort in the showcase and\u00a0 all they looked amazing in their dressing up.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The students competed in houses and rotated around a variety of activities throughout the morning to gain house points for their teams. They then joined me for our final assembly where we celebrated PE Awards, Birthdays, Stars of the Week, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Head Teachers Awards. As well as finding out which House won the House Challenge and the weekly House Point Award, we learnt which House was the champion for the term!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t
