The Student Council have Been Busy Again!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Tuesday our wonderful Student Council organised a Bake Sale to raise funds for Turkey. This was a wonderful effort from the students and they did an amazing job. There was a perfectly delicious smorgasbord of deliciously tempting cakes, cookies and pies and in total 1632RM was raised! Well done and thank you to all who bought cakes and also to those who donated.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Careers Guidance and University Admissions<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

During our PSHE lesson on Tuesday this week, Years 11, 12, and 13 enjoyed a visit from a representative from Warwick University, Mr. Imran Hashim. He gave a very informative presentation about the university, and spoke very passionately about the joys of tertiary education.<\/p>\n

\"\"Warwick University is one of the Russell Group Universities in the UK, and top in the country for Computer Science, and Accounting and Finance. He covered such topics as the courses they offer, facilities, fees, housing, and of course the culture and ethos of the campus. I think a lot of interest was generated, and it certainly helps us commit to revision regimes when we have a concrete vision of a possible end point of where we\u2019re heading! It was of course very nice also that Imran took time to come and visit KIS.<\/p>\n

We will continue to offer our students opportunities to meet and talk to university representatives when we are able to, as part of our comprehensive Careers Education programme [including University Admissions], so that they are armed with the best possible information on which they can base important decisions moving forwards.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator border_width=”2″][vc_column_text]Maths Day: What Happened on Tuesday? <\/strong><\/p>\n

On March 14th Secondary celebrated Maths Day with a range of exciting activities and competitions. This year also saw the return of the year group Maths Day photo for year 7 for the first time since 2019. They had to work together to form a recognisable mathematical symbol \u2013 do you think they succeeded?<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The day started with some Pi facts during registration. Did you know that Pi is an irrational number that has been calculated to over a trillion digits?<\/p>\n

Students from years 7, 8, and 10 got to showcase their maths skills and participate in fun-filled house competitions in their maths lessons. Split into teams, students had to communicate with each other to relay information. The competition required quick thinking, teamwork, and excellent communication skills.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The challenges were a great way for students to develop their problem-solving skills and foster team spirit. The next activity for years 8 and 10 was a stacking competition, making the tallest tower from 3d shapes made from recycled paper. The overall winners for all the House competitions was Sapi!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Year 9 students went to the Primary building to assist with the Maths Day activities and helped the primary students prepare for the fancy dress parade. Some students learnt how to be patient and others had their maths abilities tested by their younger peers!<\/p>\n

At the end of the day, students in years 7, 8, and 9 gave their PSHE presentations on Statistics and Bullying. Each group was allocated a different area to focus on and had spent over a month collecting, analysing, and presenting data to develop their understanding of bullying prevention and solutions. Year 10 also looked at employability skills in PSHE and how maths relates to many future careers. The best presentation winners were Dasha(9S), Oscar(9S), Natalie(8K), George(8K), Brendan(8K), Javier(7K) and Sabrina(7K), who researched Cyberbullying and Name Calling. Well done!<\/p>\n

During the day, students had the opportunity to develop their team working skills and learn about the importance of Maths outside of their Maths lessons. Maths Day was a fantastic day filled with excitement, learning, and team spirit.
