Primary Sports Day @ Borneo Sports Arena on Monday March 20th!<\/b><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Hopefully, you would have all received the email earlier in the week containing details of our upcoming Primary Sports Day. With our usual venue Penampang currently closed, we are trialling an alternative format modelled on the Indoor Sportshall Athletics system with a series of modified athletic events. What hasn\u2019t changed though is the opportunity for students to compete in their houses and challenge themselves to achieve their own personal best performances.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Monday 20th March, parents of students in Years 1-6 should bring their students DIRECTLY to <\/span>Borneo Sports Arena<\/span><\/a> in Kolombong between 7:30-7:45am.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Students will need to be dressed in the PE uniform and bring a small bag containing a water bottle and lots of small snacks to keep them energized during the day. Students will not receive any snacks or meals from the school canteen that day so they must bring all their own food.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The day will run through till 12:00pm and please be advised that students WILL NOT return to school after the event has finished. There are also no ECA\u2019s that day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It is sure to be another wonderful event and we would really love to see as many parents as possible coming down to throw their support behind all the students. As always, we will also be inviting parents to take part in some of the activities so make sure you are ready to go yourselves!<\/span><\/p>\n

U13 FOBISIA Games – Celebrating our fantastic athletes!! (Part 2)<\/b><\/p>\n

Day 2 – Girls Football and Boys Basketball<\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The girls were in good spirits and they were excited to get started with the matches. The night before we had a team meeting to discuss their roles and strategies. I tried to keep the details as simple as possible, they understood and off they went to their rooms to have a good night rest. On match day, the girls were all ready in their football kit and looked enthusiastic. There were smiles on their faces and of course, they were nervous. We had another team meeting after breakfast and told them to do their best despite the challenges they are going to go through in the football matches.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The \u2018Viperettes\u2019 did very well as a team. Despite the low number of players they had compared to the other schools, they tried their best to play as a team and they were playing with passion and determination. Every member of the team supported each other as they attacked and defended together showing great teamwork. Janice Lim was the best player in my opinion as she tirelessly worked all over the midfield area providing support defensively and offensively. Mischa\u2019s versatility provided more options in attack and midfield duties as she tried to open up opportunities to score goals. Melanie did very well as a goalkeeper, she positioned herself well between the sticks and made a lot of saves. Despite having been bruised for making those saves, I admire her determination in carrying on to continue to do her best for her team. There were so many qualities I saw in the Viperettes and if only bad weather did not interrupt our training sessions we would have performed so much better prior to the games.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the Viperettes lost all of their football matches, they ended the day with smiles and they knew they had tried their best. They did not give up and pushed themselves all the way, that is the spirit I am very proud of. For that, I am happy with their attitude and determination in all of the matches.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Boys Basketball<\/b><\/h3>\n

The boys could not wait to get on the basketball court on day two of competition. A favourite sport of many at KIS and with a record of success at previous games the team were motivated to give it their all.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They got off to a great start with a win against The British School of Kathmandu. The game had a few turns of fortune and it was an excellent first game for the boys to get some of their competition nerves out of the system. Ian Zi was strong in his attempts to attack the basket while Hong Son showed off his ball mastery skills when taking on the opposition with some class dribbling skills. After leading most of the boys suddenly found themselves trailing Kathmandu but thankfully a late basket brought them back to win the game 10-9.<\/span><\/p>\n

Feeling good after their first victory the team had to play again straight away. Their next game tested the boys ability to remain composed against a fairly physical opposition in HELP International School. A low scoring game but all that was important was that it was another win for the team taking it out 9-4.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m still not sure if it was the break that caused the team to relax a little too much, or a little complacency following their two wins, but it was a very different Vipers squad that took to the court in the third game against Uplands. It was also a good lesson in never underestimating your opposition as Uplands started with a flourish of points that put KIS immediately out of sorts and on the back foot. Sadly, the team just weren\u2019t able to recover and ended up losing that match 22-6. Despite the loss there still a lot of positives with players like Brendan really stepping up and going from strength to strength in winning rebounds and cleanly delivering the ball all the while whilst working very hard up and down the courts. Aldrich and Taylor also showed dogged determination in defense and a great attitude throughout the match.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Following that tough defeat the boys had to regroup after lunch for two more matches back to back. The first of which I coined \u201cThe FOBISIA Grand Final\u201d against Garden International School. GIS had been enjoying a very good day and were undefeated going into the match having been playing some very good basketball. The boys knew they were going to be challenged and they were incredibly keen to make amends from the disappointment of the last game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"The game certainly delivered on quality and excitement with both teams challenging each other throughout and putting on the best basketball display of the day! Our traveling support crew were constantly on the edge of their seats, and jumping out of them, as they screamed with deafening ferocity following every KIS basket. I know the team were disappointed with the final\u00a0 outcome losing 18-16, but I know with absolute certainty that the Vipers gave it their absolute all and I cannot fault or question their commitment to the cause.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Not out of contention for a medal, the team had the daunting task of backing up from their epic match just 10mins later to face XCL from Penang, a win would see them finish in 3rd place. The speed and intensity at which the last game was played, added with the exertions of the previous day meant that some players started to succumb to cramping in the muscles. It meant that everyone had to dig deep and play their part to get through the match. What ensued was 4 quarters of tired legs and bodies in pure survival mode. My anxiety on the sidelines was off the charts but when the final whistle blew, the celebrations erupted from the whole team as KIS Vipers took the win and the 3rd place trophy as a very well deserved reward for their efforts and commitment during the day. Well done Vipers!<\/span><\/p>\n

After two exhaustive days of sport most of the team enjoyed a chilled afternoon of chess and mingling with new friends at the hotel while a few of the boys went for a recovery session at the resort pool!<\/span><\/p>\n

Liga SupaRimau Wrap-up – Saturday 4th March<\/strong><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Under 12\u2019s enjoyed, or maybe rather didn\u2019t enjoy having a week off their football last weekend, while the Under 10\u2019s were back in action against TABS and Likas FC.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Down a few players made it tough for the Under 10 A\u2019s but they battled through as we have come to expect from all our Vipers teams and did themselves proud.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the Under 10 B\u2019s match it was an incredibly exciting affair with the Vipers taking the lead in their game and then keeping it until almost the end of the first third when TABS finally managed to equalise!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Whilst the team were not able to win the match, it was a tremendously encouraging moment for the team and KIS\u2019 involvement going forward in the Liga SupaRimau competition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"On Thursday, a letter was emailed out to all parents of students in Years 2-7 calling for registrations for Season B that will take place between 20th May until 9th July. We have already had an incredibly positive response with current players wanting to rejoin as well as new players also wanting to join in on the fun!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We are opening up registrations this time for the following Age Groups.<\/span><\/p>\n
