Not only will the students be growing tomato plants in a fun and competitive way, they will be recycling the school\u2019s old toilet bowls [thoroughly cleaned by the Eco Warriors] as planters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Rules<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Collect your seeds, a recycled egg tray, soil, fertiliser and a \u2018toilet planter\u2019 from Ms McPherson on Monday morning (from 7:40am outside music block)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>You may use anything else you wish on your plants, e.g. a cane if they grow tall. All fertiliser should be organic. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>You must NOT touch or tamper with any other class\u2019 plant. This will get your team disqualified!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We\u2019ll be giving regular updates in how the plants are getting along!<\/p>\n<p>Excitement is mounting about the Key Stage 4 \/ 5 Music Recital, read on and book your tickets for that!<\/p>\n<p>On Monday Year 12 \/ 13 will be starting mock examinations, and also on Monday we have the Year 10 Parent \/ Teacher \/ Student conferences in the school hall. We are really looking forward to seeing all parents there participating in these important discussions as this group of students are halfway through their first year of IGCSE students.\u00a0 The rest of the term is going to go very quickly, and teachers will be starting to write the termly reports next week.<\/p>\n<p>Excitement is mounting about the Key Stage 4 \/ 5 Music Recital, read on and book your tickets for that!<\/p>\n<p>Have a wonderful weekend!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Margaret Renshaw<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deputy Principal \/ Head of Secondary<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2><strong>News from the Eco-Warriors!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Eco Warriors are on a mission to celebrate Earth Day this year by having a selection of activities running throughout the week before &#8211; 17th to 21st April.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We will host a growing project and challenge that will be launched next week in which forms will compete to see who can grow the healthiest tomato plants by Thursday 20th April. On that day we will have a team of experts inspecting and judging the plants. There will also be a prize for the best decorated planter (toilet).<\/p>\n<p>Next Monday, each form (including Y12s and Y13s) will be provided with a packet of tomato seeds, some compost, a cardboard seedling tray and a cup of fertilizer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Once the seeds have begun to grow into healthy plants, the plants will be able to be transferred into one of the repurposed toilet bowls or cisterns that are currently being cleaned by the Secondary Eco Warriors. By this stage the plants do not need so much sun and may be able to be located closer to the classroom.\u00a0It is unlikely that we will produce fruit by Earth Week, but this does not have to be the end of the project! This is going to be held at Langkah Syabas beach. Merits will be awarded to each person that participates and house points will be given to the winning house. The beach clean-up is not only a fun and filling way to spend your day but also an effective way to clear up the pollution.
