Our first game was against GIS and we knew that this would be the best chance given the squad sizes of the other schools who had brought separate football teams to basketball. The game with GIS finished 1-1. The Vipers suffered a heavy loss 5-0 and it left the squad very deflated. This carried to game number three against POWIIS where the Vipers found themselves 4-0 down at half-time. We had a chat and decided that no matter how difficult and tired they were, we would try to keep going if it was possible. In the second half the Vipers went out and scored two goals from Myko and Ian and the game finished 4-2. It was just what they needed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next up was XISP and this was the final game as a KIS squad. During the game, which was a 2-0 defeat, we finished the game with 6 players due to more cramps, bruised toes and some other small muscle injuries. Unable to field a team for the final match, XISP lent us some players to field a team against the competition winners HELP. It was a fun game and the boys tried to think of the bigger picture and how much they enjoyed FOBISIA overall. The game finished in a 2-0 defeat but in good spirits with newly made fiends.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two very tough team competitions with a very small squad but I am sure the boys all learned something and still enjoyed the FOBISIA games.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The girls were feeling incredibly motivated on the last day of competition for the Basketball, keen to push through despite the sore muscles and injury niggles that were starting to creep in after two very touch days already of competitions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In their first match against Kathmandu, despite a fast breakaway and successful layup from Pui San in the opening play of the game, it was a low scoring game with lots of running from end to end which ended in close 6-2 defeat. Despite this result, the girls picked themselves back up and went in all guns blazing into their second game with a fire and determination I had not seen before. Against a very physical team from HELP International school, the girls stood their ground and played brilliantly for a well deserved 10-2 win.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That match was the catalyst for a surge in confidence from the girls and they went from strength to strength, applying and demonstrating everything we had talked about in the lead up to the games and also on the day. In their 3rd game, the team came up against POWIIS, a very strong basketball team and eventual winners of the tournament. In a superb team effort, they won that game 13-10 against XISP. Isabella was steadfast in her defensive position and Dasha took charge of the ball under the basket in both attack and defense. It was also great to see others like Keira, Ana, Juah and Haylie become more confident in their roles on the court.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 5th and final game of the day and the girls were playing Garden International School for a chance to go home with the 3rd place trophy. I cannot praise the team\u2019s commitment, effort and performance enough in that match. They fought hard, but fairly, and moved the ball around better than they ever before. When they got knocked down, they got back up again and the noise coming from both the players on the bench and the boys in the stands helped to spur the team on. Defensively, they could not be broken down which led to frustration showing in the performance of their opponents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 900px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('video');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-19486-1\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kis.edu.my\/kisnewsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/girls-basketball-video.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kis.edu.my\/kisnewsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/girls-basketball-video.mp4\">https:\/\/www.kis.edu.my\/kisnewsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/girls-basketball-video.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I am thrilled to say that when the final whistle blew, arms went up in celebration and a huge cheer of celebration filled the court. A hugely deserving result for a group who had given everything they could, at every moment. It was an immensely proud coach looking on as the team collected their medals and then Dasha as Captain lifted the trophy &#8211; Go Vipers!!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the last night, the team could finally relax a little after 3 intense days of physically and emotionally draining competitions. First, a cooling swim in the resort pool before heading back to their rooms to put on their best clothes and do their hair before the gala dinner and the opportunity to mingle with new friends at the disco later in the evening.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following dinner, some final awards were announced and a huge applause and cheer went up\u00a0 from the Vipers when it was revealed that they had collectively finished 3rd place in Swimming! An excellent way to end the competitions!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On behalf of the coaching staff; Mr Watson and myself, as well as Team Manager Mrs Abdullah, we couldn\u2019t be prouder of the commitment and effort of all the students throughout the week. They were a credit to the school, their parents and most importantly themselves. This payment will be used to purchase flights and so in order to ensure there is no unnecessary delay in booking please make sure this date is written in your diaries.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you know that your child needs a new passport, or, that there is less than 6 months from the date of travel left on it then please make sure the new passport is organised before February and that a copy of the Passport ID page is emailed to me or Ms Wong in the front office.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>KIS CUP<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rain, rain, go away!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sadly, there are a lot of very disappointed Year 3 and Year 4 footballers this weekend as heavy rain prevented them from playing their matches not once, BUT TWICE this week!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thankfully, we caught a break in the weather on Thursday and the Year 5 and Year 6 teams were able to enjoy some excellent, all be it rather hot matches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The level and quality of football was certainly raised this week and the substantial crowd on the sidelines were treated to two very close matches with some lovely connective passing to create numerous scoring opportunities. France got their first win of the tournament with a late goal against Brazil, but then maybe the double header in the heat was too much for them as they then were on the other end of a goal game, losing out to England who with that win retained their postion in 1st place on the table.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We will be crossing all of our fingers and toes that we are able to resume the competition for the Year 3 and Year 4 teams on Monday.
