I was lucky enough to be invited to watch Y6 presenting on what they thought anti-bullying is about and how it should be dealt with in school. In fact they were so good, I have asked them to present to the other classes next week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So what is Anti-Bullying Week?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Anti-Bullying Week is a way of raising awareness about bullying. It is a week during which we learn about bullying and how to deal with it. Talk to your child about what they have learnt in class this week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is bullying?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bullying is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>hurting someone else, on purpose;<\/li>\n<li>something that happens repeatedly (over and over again);<\/li>\n<li>not the same as something that happens once;<\/li>\n<li>hurtful in lots of different ways (not just physically).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are the different kinds of bullying?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Physical bullying<\/em> \u2013 includes pushing, shoving, biting, pinching, hitting and kicking. It could be damaging or taking someone&#8217;s belongings. It can be easier to spot physical bullying. People might see it happening and it can leave bruises.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Verbal bullying<\/em> \u2013 includes name-calling, saying nasty things about someone, teasing and threats. It is harder to tell if someone is being verbally bullied. It can be done more secretly and doesn&#8217;t leave visible marks. It hurts people\u2019s feelings and emotions and is very harmful.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Social bullying<\/em> \u2013 includes spreading rumours about someone, leaving someone out on purpose, telling others not to be friends with someone or embarrassing someone in public.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What can be done if someone is being bullied?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you are being bullied \u2013 tell someone that you trust: a parent, teacher or an older relative. They will make sure it is dealt with properly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you know someone who is being bullied \u2013 you must tell someone that you trust. They will be able to help. Be kind to that person. They might be feeling alone, sad and scared. Smile, talk to them or include them in something. It will make a big difference!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is sometimes hard to stick up for someone who is being bullied. You might think that you will be bullied yourself, or that you and your friends will get into trouble.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Remember all the teachers, TLAs, Ms Siti and myself are here to help!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Next week is another busy week with a Y1 trip to MERC and a Y3 Assembly and Showcase.
