Primary Sport Mornings Wrap!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wow! What an amazingly exciting week of sporting action we have enjoyed at school this week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Starting on Monday, we had to make some last minute wet weather changes to our EYFS Sport Morning, but that didn\u2019t affect the excitement as our youngest sports stars tested their skills in four different activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Move over Ninja Warrior, Mr. Watson had created an amazing obstacle course to challenge F1 and F2, climbing up and jumping off mountains, crawling through tunnels and balancing their way across stepping stones. They also got to test their \u2018driving skills\u2019 in Mr. Bromley\u2019s Grab Pizza challenge making their way across on their scooters to collect their pizzas for delivery – yum! Tongues were out in deep concentration as they tried to make their way across the room without dropping and breaking their egg in Mr. Richie\u2019s egg and spoon race. To finish off the games, students were tasked with the job of going on a Pokemon hunt. Using their throwing skills in different target challenges. Our young sports stars certainly did well throughout the morning and were well supported by their mum\u2019s and dad\u2019s who came to cheer them off.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Dark clouds loomed again on Tuesday morning, but Year 5 and Year 6 were buzzing with both excitement and maybe some nerves ahead of their competitions. Our senior primary students had been divided into 2 teams for each house with one group heading to the field for \u201ccapture the flag\u201d while the other team took part in benchball competitions on the court, a new favourite amongst the students.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Successful strategising, together with some turns of speed and dodging meant that there were lots of successful attempts at capturing their opponents flags. While on the courts, excellent movement into spaces, coupled with some accurate passing and catching resulted in lots of points being scored in benchball. Sady, at the end of the first activity, the rain started to fall and so it was into the hall and everyone\u2019s favourite Sports Day event – the Tug-of-War!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It was a hotly contested event with so much noise coming from the support of those watching which was wonderful to witness and truly in keeping with the spirit of the day. We even had time for a Staff vs Parents competition which was a big thrill for everyone. The staff team managed to come back from 1 down to win the series 2-1 in a best of three contest, good job team!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Moving on to Year 3 and 4 on Wednesday and we were finally rewarded with a dry day! Teams had to work together and apply their coordination and concentration in the Tchoukball challenge. One player would throw the ball at the rebound net, then quickly move aside for their teammate behind to move into place and catch the ball. A great activity for students to demonstrate the key PE concepts of \u201cHead-Heart-Hands\u201d in action. On the basketball court, house teams took part in a series of dribbling relays for both basketball and hockey, showing off their object control with some timed challenges.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Back to the hall again for some very closely contested tug-of-war challenges between the 3 houses. Students strained and groined and screamed in their efforts to pull their opponents across the finish line. Word had spread amongst the class whatsapp groups about the parents defeat the previous day and they had arrived with a renewed sense of competitive spirit. Teachers took the first round this time but then the parents won the next two to even up the overall series 1-1. What would happen the next day on the final sports day?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Thursday morning and Year 1 and Year 2 were gifted with a bright sunny day for their Sport Morning – finally! Students started the day rotating through 3 fun challenges including kicking goals in a penalty shootout and seeing how far they could launch their \u2018rockets\u2019 in the Nerf throw demonstrating their impressive overarm throws. I think some of the students nearly sent their rockets over the fence! Students were also granted their Grab Driver licenses and tasked with the job of collecting their pizzas from the kitchen and then delivering them by throwing them through a hoop which proved to be a difficult challenge, but it was great to see how resilient students were in keeping at it until they were successful and also the support and encouragement they received from their teammates is exactly the type of behaviours and attitudes we want to cultivate in students through PE and sport.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t
