[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As I write this, Ms Service is working with Year 10 on \u2018Days of the Future\u2019. Over the last 3 years we have been unable to run our traditional work experience week, where our students had work placements in the community, trying out different careers that they could be interested in pursuing later on. We have had to be creative in the ways that we tackle this important aspect of learning, and Thursday and Friday this week were certainly that! Activities include a personality test, the results of which are then linked to careers choices followed by a short session on \u2018What are employers looking for?\u2019 There is a strong focus on \u2018soft skills\u2019 over the two days, with team building, communication, and presentation skills sessions. On Friday there is a strong focus on interview skills and digital literacy, very different but equally essential aspects of living in the modern world. I would like to thank Ms Service for creating, organising and managing these two days.<\/p>\n

Year 12 students, having completed their AS Level examinations were very busy from Monday to Wednesday with their Careers Days, again designed to replace the work experience of past years (which perhaps we can return to next year). Very many thanks to Mrs Colbeck for organising these very successful days\u2026.read on to find out more about what happened.<\/p>\n

For the last two years we have held our Year 13 Graduation ceremony online, and whilst they turned out to be a somewhat better than expected alternative to face-to-face, we were delighted that this year we could go ahead and have the event in the school hall last evening. More news and photos of the Graduation in next week\u2019s newsletter, but I would like to say a huge \u2018Congratulations\u2019 to our Graduates: Zach, Wilber, Delia, Joseph, Roshween, Jasmine Qawiemah, Vadim, Celeste, Hitoshi, Holly, Daniel and Alex. They have been a fantastic year group, not just academically, but in terms of their generosity of spirit, kindness and maturity.\u00a0 We will miss them, and hope that they will keep in touch and let us know all about their exciting adventures moving forward.<\/p>\n

Next week is equally busy in Secondary. From Wednesday to Friday we have the Year 6 to 7 Transition Days, with a special programme designed by Ms Colley for 6K and 6S as they get a taste of what it is like in Secondary. It is an exciting time for them. As part of the week, we are having a presentation for Year 6 parents on Wednesday at 9am in the multi-purpose room, where we will encourage lots of questions about what life in Secondary is like for their children, and how parents can support the transition.<\/p>\n

With the end of term rapidly approaching we are, of course, thinking about next term. I will be writing to all parents and students giving the details of what to expect, but it is worth mentioning now that in Secondary we have a staggered start to the year, with Years 7, 10, 12 and 13 in school on Monday 15th<\/sup> August, and all year groups in on Tuesday 16th<\/sup>. This seems as though it is in the distant future, but we all know how quickly the weeks seem to rush by (although we are all naturally hoping for a lovely leisurely summer break!).<\/p>\n

Year 12 Career Days 13th- 15th June 2022<\/h3>\n

Year 12 returned after their AS exams to go through 3 days of presentations, workshops, and research focussing on their plans and ambitions for the future. We had guest speakers from the worlds of IT (Ismail Fulat), Hospitality (Thor Gervasi), Film (Aaron Cowan), and Entrepreneurial endeavours (Simon Davis), all of whom were interesting and inspiring, giving us their insights and experiences from their fields of expertise- we would all like to thank them very much for their time and effort.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We also spent time researching University courses, and exploring ideas about where and what was interesting to us, making shortlists of possible countries to study in, as well as specific courses that fit into our potential career plans. Ms McNutt gave us helpful advice and tips on writing our personal statements, and Mrs Davis shared great interview techniques to use- I think I learned a few new ones myself! Some of our alumni joined us online to share their experiences of University life too, and it was wonderful to connect with them again.<\/p>\n

We also tried to develop a few life skills along the way, with Mr Williams and Mr Bromley giving us great instruction on basic car maintenance, as well as what to look for when buying a used car. Mr Bryant shared his kitchen tips in a session on cooking and food preparation, culminating in a nice stir-fry meal for all. A great and productive way to spend 3 days, and I hope the Year 12 students got a lot of useful advice and ideas along the way!<\/p>\n
