[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Head – HEART – Hands in Primary PE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This week has seen Primary classes complete their first unit of Term 2. I have loved walking around the school and seeing the engagement in lessons from students and also hearing about the positive progress being made by all as a result of positive attitudes to learning.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I have mentioned previously that in Primary we are not simply concerned with teaching students about the physical skills to take part successfully in games and sports, but also the thinking or cognitive skills and even their attitudes and behaviours, both personal and social. All of which are essential skills and transferable in so many ways across the curriculum.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When assessing students within the \u201cheart\u201d <\/em>domain, we want to see students demonstrate resilience in learning new skills, teamwork and positive communication when working collaboratively, and also the ability to demonstrate the values of fair play and sportsmanship, even whilst competing with others.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I enjoyed hearing from Mr. Watson how his Year 5 class have progressed in regards to their ability to communicate during games. They have learnt to give precise and effective instructions to support each other when making decisions about when to run in striking and fielding games. Difficult skills to master that can be applied in so many different situations.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Year 6 this week took part in both volleyball and mini-tennis tournaments to finish their Net & Wall Games unit. I was tremendously impressed with how students were able to self-umpire their games and resolve any minor disputes between players. Students were clearly able to demonstrate their capabilities in being able to compete whilst still demonstrating strong sportsmanship.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Well done Primary, and I look forward to seeing even more fantastic learning from everyone in the final weeks of the term.<\/p>\n

ECA\u2019s return! <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I think the highlight of my week was hearing a student joyfully exclaim that after finishing their ECA on Monday that they \u201chad forgotten covid even existed for an hour!\u201d I think this speaks wonders for how important students’ involvement in extracurricular activities is and how wonderful it is to have this enriching programme back up and running again at KIS.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are a number of physical activity clubs being offered this term with an emphasis on offering both additional support and more competitive opportunities to students in developing their physical skills and fitness.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are still places available in the FUNdamental Movement Skills Club for Primary students in Years 3-6 taking place on Tuesday afternoons.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
