[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It has been a fantastic week as we welcomed students back into \u2018physical\u2019 school for truly \u2018physical\u2019 Physical Education lessons!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Students across the Primary school have been engaged in a myriad of different movement and learning experiences. Our youngest movers in EYFS are exploring how to use their body\u2019s effectively to be balanced and stable, whether jumping off great heights to land safely, or carefully making their way across obstacles without falling.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In Key Stage 1, Year 2 were focusing on their striking skills by making sure they kept \u201ctheir eyes on the prize\u201d as they used small bats to strike a stationary ball. Many of the students showed excellent hand-eye coordination to send their balls flying past the waiting fielders with both power and accuracy.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In Year 3 and Year 6 students have begun units on Net & Wall games while Years 4 and 5 are sharpening their skills in Striking and Fielding activities. Both of these units allow students to have the opportunity to develop a range of skills in different small-sided and modified games that can be transferred into different sports or contexts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The PE Department aim to ensure we equip students with the fundamental skills, knowledge and attitudes to lead healthy active lifestyles, both within school and their post school lives. As an International school focussed on nurturing global citizens, taking part in units with a thematic or concept focus means students are not simply restricted to knowing how to play specific sports, but rather that they can learn and adapt with confidence to play any game no matter where they are in the world or the cultural focus of that region. For example, a student who understands the fundamentals of how to strike an object can apply this skill in either a game of baseball in Japan, or a cricket match in Australia or even ice hockey in Sweden.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
