[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This week I had the pleasure of reading the primary student reports. It was wonderful to read about how much progress students are making, especially now they are back in school. I know I have said it many times before but I am so proud of how resilient and positive our students have been throughout the long and difficult time spent online.<\/p>\n

I have been meeting fortnightly with the Student Council members and they have lots of ideas about how to improve our school. They have already implemented \u2018Playground Buddies\u2019 which will start in Term 2. This is where one person from each class volunteers to be a playtime buddy for anyone who has no one to play with. As well, they are all very keen to create more green spaces around our school and have suggested that the canteen has a weekly \u2018Meat Free Monday\u2019 in order to do our part towards helping the climate crisis. They have been very busy writing letters to Mr Gross to persuade him to implement both these ideas. Another great idea they have is to create \u2018zoned spaces\u2019 at breaktime and lunchtime so that students have access to a greater range of activities. We are hoping that as soon as SOPs allow, we can implement this as well.<\/p>\n

Three of our primary students were very brave this week by attending and delivering a speech at the Children\u2019s Global Summit on \u2018How kindness can change the world\u2019. This is an online event hosted by Nexus International school and attended by many students and teachers from around the world; Malaysia, Australia, Singapore, Turks and Caicos, Indonesia, India, the Bahamas, Brunei and the Netherlands! This was a great opportunity for them to meet many students and speak in front of an audience.<\/p>\n

Eshanna, who has delivered a speech two years in a row at a Global Summit, delivered the following speech:<\/p>\n

\"\"Hi! My name is Eshaana Kaur from Kinabalu International School in Malaysia. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

There are many different ways for you to spread a little sunshine. The way you decide on how to show kindness will inevitably be up to you, but the results will be the same. You will be spreading joy, love, and lifting spirits! <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

What is kindness? An act of kindness is being friendly, generous, and considerate. It is also something nice that you do without expecting praise or reward.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

We can\u2019t always know what\u2019s going on inside someone\u2019s head, but we can always compliment them, give them a smile or a hug as a kind gesture to bring happiness to that person.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

We can also do chores to be kind to our friends, teachers or parents to build meaningful relationships. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

We can be kind to the environment by planting more trees,recycling and reducing our waste.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

We should also be kind to ourselves by eating healthily,exercising and getting enough sleep.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

When someone does us a kind deed, we feel connected and more willing to cooperate with them. When we do something nice for someone, we cultivate trust, and we feel good about ourselves for being a kind person.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
