As a school, we are very proud of the way our students have done their best to meet the challenges presented by the periods of online learning that have occurred over the last eighteen months. All members of our Key Stage 3 classes have shown themselves to be resilient, spirited and adaptable learners. However, it is only natural that some of our students have found the process more difficult than others and we are continuing to utilize tried and tested methods to offer any support that we can.<\/p>\n

Moving forward, we will be rolling out a number of strategies that will provide struggling students with both academic and pastoral targets to meet. To help them to do so, we will be closely monitoring their progress and will establish a continuous dialogue with these students and parents to ensure that they are fully supported throughout their learning journey. In some cases, we will also be involving some members of our Prefect team as studies have shown that peer-to-peer mentoring can be very effective.<\/p>\n

Whilst we all hope that it won\u2019t be too long before students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will be back in school, we are in an unpredictable situation and we will continue to take a proactive approach when it comes to our students\u2019 wellbeing and attainment.<\/p>\n

Timothy [Tien Ming] Lo: A Rising Star!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many in the community will know that KIS student Timothy Lo has been actively pursuing his passion for golf over the years and we were delighted this week to hear the news that he has been awarded a\u00a0 four year student athletic scholarship at Liberty University, starting in the Spring semester 2022. Timothy has been a terrific sporting role model to his peers and younger students at KIS, achieving highly not just in the sporting arena but also in his academic studies. He gained excellent IGCSE results and these, together with evidence of his sporting prowess, have facilitated the next step in achieving his golf dream.<\/p>\n

Timothy leaves KIS with all of our best wishes and many congratulations!<\/p>\n

Socially Distanced Duke of Edinburgh International Award <\/strong><\/p>\n

As reported in a previous newsletter, the DofE team are preparing to run SOP aligned Bronze and Gold Adventurous Journey practices and as part of that they turned the hall into a space for teams to efficiently erect and dismantle tents. Letters have been sent out informing parents about the next important event\u00a0 The students will meet at school at 7.40am next Friday 5th November with their full kit, including all required food and water. They will then embark on a short circular route (max 3.5 hours), starting from and returning to KIS. The Day 2 route, which students have already planned will be to a location of their choice in KK. This should take them not less than 2 hours and no more than 6 hours to walk. They will need to be picked up from school at approximately 2.30pm on the afternoon of Saturday 6th November. We wish the students and staff every success with this, [let\u2019s hope that the rain stays switched off for them\u2026.] and look forward to seeing some photos in a future newsletter!<\/p>\n
