Please allow me to update you on our Green Flag journey.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In accordance with the WWF Ecoschools guidance, we had to check with our community that the KIS EcoCode was still good and we did this by notifying the KIS community through this newsletter and we have not received any objections to us continuing with it this year. In the newsletter of 2nd October, we invited adults interested in doing the EcoCommittee to apply. We have had some applications which both primary and secondary EcoWarriors on the EcoCommittee will consider and decide. Adults – you will be notified in due course, be patient with us.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"EcoOn Monday 4th October after school, I attended an online Green Flag clinic with WWF Ecoschools and Eco teacher mentors in other schools from KL, Ipoh, Butterworth and others.\u00a0 It was great to share experiences and strategies with other schools on the same journey and to learn how other schools achieved the Green Flag. I came away heartened to see that we are on track.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Secondary EcoWarriors number 12 this year and are co-led by Tiggi (9S) and Grace (10S).\u00a0 On Monday 4th October, photographs were taken of our bins and contents before and after school. Photo analysis will be done and the EcoWarriors will be able to establish what kind of litter we generate. Reducing litter, having no single use plastic and recycling more of our waste are targets EcoWarriors have set this year. We also wish to reduce our energy use. We will compare our electricity use from August\/September with those months when students return to school. We can begin with October and compare use from the Y10-13 and Early Years return.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Primary EcoWarriors has 19 members this year, mentored by Miss Gibbons. They are meeting fortnightly on zoom and are organising their Media and Events teams. They are generating\u00a0 fantastic ideas for Primary online activities – watch this space.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On 10th October, Mr Gross, myself, Tiggi, Grace, Fion and Ms Gibbons attended the EcoSchools Award Ceremony. This was a celebration of EcoSchools\u2019 10th birthday and all Bronze, Silver and Green Flag schools were congratulated. Mr Gross and Tiggi spoke on behalf of our school. A new award, the Hibiscus Award, was presented to IS Kuala Lumpur and Sri Bestari Private School because they have both received 3 Green Flags.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Our EcoWarriors are amazing. Did you know that the Secondary EcoWarriors meet every Friday lunchtime and they have done this all through lockdowns and once back in school (socially distanced of course). All our KIS EcoWarriors are energized and buzzing with ideas. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Come with us on our Green Flag Journey and then we can set our sights on the Hibiscus Award once we have the Green Flag flying over KIS.<\/span><\/p>\n
