It has been a joy to see such a range of \u2018<em>whimsical<\/em>\u2019 and \u2018<em>innovative<\/em>\u2019 vocabulary; you are clearly \u2018<em>enraptured<\/em>\u2019 and \u2018<em>enthralled<\/em>\u2019 by the books you are \u2018<em>immersing<\/em>\u2019 yourselves in.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The winner this week has chosen a word which was coined by Horace Walpole in 1754, who was inspired by <em>The Three Princes of Serendip<\/em>, the title of a fairy tale in which the heroes were always making discoveries, through accidents and sagacity, of things they were not in quest of. Well done Isaac Lee in 9S, for your word, \u2018<em>serendipitous<\/em>\u2019, which means something occurring or discovered by chance in a happy or beneficial way. Congratulations on earning 5 merit points for your house! I also really loved Leya\u2019s word choice, and I would like to award her 3 merits for \u2018<em>pluviophile<\/em>\u2019, which is a lover of rain, and someone who finds joy and peace of mind in rainfall.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I would like to say a massive well done to all students who entered words this week; they have earned 1 house point each for their brilliant efforts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As your Head of English for our next academic year, I couldn\u2019t be more excited to hear all about the books you will undoubtedly be devouring over the holiday, and to see all the wonderful words you encounter!
