[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As we approach the end of term our thoughts naturally turn to what has been achieved, particularly since August. In many ways, as we know, life has been difficult and no one would have wished the pandemic upon us. When life doesn\u2019t go quite the way we want it to, how we deal with challenges becomes most important, and when we come out the other end we hope that we can look back and see that in amongst all of the stresses and difficulties there were many positives and successes.<\/p>\n

At the Celebration Assembly next Tuesday at 8am [via Zoom] we will be acknowledging some of those successes. We will be awarding Merit Certificates [virtually] to those students who have built up enough credits to gain Bronze and Silver awards. We will be also be naming those students, who, during this term\u2019s lockdown, been working admirably to keep up with their learning with the Online Learner Awards. The Charity Committee will be talking about the tremendous range of activities that they have laid on for students, and Ms Tooley and the Student Council will bring us up to date with the Christmas Angels appeal. Mr Davis will be announcing the student successes in the The 2020 UKMT Senior Maths Challenge, and Mr Baxter will, to great excitement I am sure, be telling us about the House competitions and letting us know how many points in total each House has earned this term. Miss Bater will be recognising the tremendous efforts of the creators of the student newspaper, KIS Today, and Mrs Davis and the Eco Warriors will be reminding us of the continuing battle to conserve the planet and the efforts that have been made in that this term.<\/p>\n

The assembly is compulsory for all students and they will received an invitation via Zoom. Parents are very welcome to attend with their children.<\/p>\n

Also on Tuesday, at 11.20, in lieu of our annual Spellathon, Ms Colley is organising a fun Christmas quiz for all students, which will bring us to the end of term at 12pm. The Secondary Term 1 reports for Years 7 to 13 will also be emailed home on Tuesday and so I would ask parents to look out for those, and discuss them with their son\/daughter.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to next term, planning is in place for the Year 11 Mock exams, which will be happening between the 11th<\/sup> and the 20th<\/sup> January. For our Year 11 students this inevitably means that they will be spending some time revising over the holiday, although I hope that they will also spare time for relaxation and family time. A letter will be sent out to the parents and students on Monday, together with a copy of the exam schedule, so that students can plan their revision appropriately.<\/p>\n

If students need any encouragement to relax with a good book, read on to find out about the Battle of the Books House Competition, designed by Mrs Davis. In joining this you will be gaining twin advantages: the joy and pleasure that a good book always brings, and the possibility of gaining points for your house!<\/p>\n

It only leaves me to say \u2018thank you\u2019 again to all members of our community for all of your efforts during this difficult time. Have a wonderful holiday and take advantage of the time to have some real rest and relaxation.<\/p>\n

Teams from Key Stage 3 will do battle in January 2021. Students will be tested on their knowledge of the four books. House captains in KS3 can begin readying their teams which will consist of four students, one from Year 7, one from Year 8, one from Year 9 and one other.<\/p>\n
