[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Whilst it\u2019s been a rather dreary week weather-wise, in school we have seen many positives. Teachers are continuing to be creative in ensuring that lessons are enjoyable and interesting and it was heart-warming when, a few days ago, a new student to the school made sure that she caught up with me in the playground to tell me how much she <\/span>loved<\/span><\/i> the school.\u00a0 Students are full of ideas about how they can contribute to their school and it is really pleasing to see them taking the initiative and coming to talk about some ideas that they have. On Tuesday I had a meeting with John and Alex from the Student Council to discuss some ideas that they have for International Week. The Student Council will be having a clear focus on student voice this year and it was good to see them getting familiar with the role and what it entails.<\/span><\/p>\n

In another step forward, we are looking to commence the Duke of Edinburgh International Award activities after half-term. As a precursor we will be creating an SOP especially for this to ensure the safety of the students and staff. We have Bronze and Gold award entrants this year. The Year 10s started during lock-down last term when they were in Year 9, with Miss McNutt running after-school online sessions. We are very proud of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme at KIS and it will be wonderful to see it start up again. Many thanks to Miss McNutt and her team for making this happen. Watch out for more news about this in the newsletter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Hallas and Year 13 have been investigating careers and university options for this, our most senior group of students. If there is one upside to Covid-19 travel restrictions, it is that more and more organisations and universities are going online. There is a plethora of webinars that students, parents and teachers can join and consequently direct exposure to what is on offer has increased hugely. This, I am sure, will continue into the future even as life gets back to \u2018normal\u2019. It is easy to see the advantages.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this newsletter you can read all about the FOBISIA\/Education Perfect Science Competition\u00a0<\/span>which KIS students will be joining between the 22<\/span>nd<\/span> and the 29<\/span>th<\/span> September. Many thanks to Mr Colbeck for organising this.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, huge congratulations to Timothy Lei in Year 11 who has been selected as a member of the <\/span>National Malaysian Golf team. Running from Tuesday 22 September through to Tuesday 29 September, this competition will give our Secondary students the ability to learn, revise and extend themselves through a range of\u00a0curriculum-aligned, engaging\u00a0science\u00a0activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Students will be able to log on to Education Perfect and they can earn points by correctly answering questions on a wide range of\u00a0Science\u00a0topics,. They\u2019ll also receive instant feedback on any incorrect answers, ensuring that every student is continually learning.\u00a0They will also be competing against students from other schools, and earning points for their Houses.<\/span><\/p>\n

Students can earn personalised digital certificates, be in the draw to win prizes, as well as earn the recognition of being the EP\u00a0FOBISIA\u00a0Science\u00a0Champion!<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”13690″ img_size=”full”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
