[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On Monday morning I went to the airport with Mr Gross to wave the Year 6 children off on their much anticipated Penang trip. At the check in desk there was a buzz of excitement in the air as the children bid a fond farewell to their parents and made their way to immigration. It wasn\u2019t long before we received the first update on Dojo that all had arrived safely and were looking forward to the evening ahead. Daily updates have followed with pictures of children at the National Park, Turtle Beach, rock climbing, bowling and enjoying the street art in George Town. The itinerary for the trip has been careful planned and action packed. I am sure that there will be some sleepy heads this weekend and that doesn\u2019t include the wonderful KIS staff who will also need a restful weekend.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mrs Dyer and Mr Burrows have been in constant contact all week and I can report that the trip has been a huge success. One of Mrs Dyer\u2019s messages to me read \u201cAll so, so, so great thanks Jo. Currently over eating at Aunty Gaik\u2019s before a street art walk. Such awesome kids and we are all having so much fun together.\u201d I think this perfectly sums up what a great time everyone had. I can\u2019t wait to hear more about their adventures when staff and children return to school on Monday.<\/p>\n

Book Week 2020 is not long away now and will be held throughout week beginning 16th<\/sup> March. Our theme this year is \u2018Robots and Aliens \u2013 The Future!\u2019, and many of the week\u2019s events, challenges, and competitions will be based around this.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Primary Book Swap will be from 8.00 to 9.00 on Monday 16th<\/sup> March followed by The Big Read from 9.00- 10.00; <\/strong>students will get a chance to get stuck into their \u2018new\u2019 pre-loved books. For a successful Book Swap event, we are relying on every student to bring in ONE book each, in good condition, to donate. If your child has not yet donated their Big Swap book, please can you ensure it is handed in to their class teacher by Wednesday 11th March. Thank you very much.<\/p>\n

Friday 20th March – Primary character parade and assembly<\/strong>
\nPerhaps the highlight of Book Week this is the day where staff, students \u2013 [and maybe even parents!] \u2013 come to school dressed up as their favourite book characters! After registration, all the students will gather in the Hall with their teachers and then take to the stage for photographs, judging, and general gasps of admiration from the audience! This will begin at 8.10am. We would like to encourage you to stay and watch the parade so you can see all of the fabulous costumes and there will be plenty of opportunities for you to take photos of your children!

\nExtreme Reading Photo Competition<\/strong>
\nAll students are invited to enter anytime over the next 5 weeks. All they need to do is submit a photo (by emailing it to francescolbeck@kis.edu.my of them reading a book in an unusual or unexpected place- The more unusual, the better! Entries will be judged by SLT and prizes will be distributed on Friday 20th March.<\/p>\n

KIS is certainly an action packed school and as well as Book Week we are also looking forward to Family Fun Day on Saturday 28th<\/sup> March. Thank you to the few parents who have kindly give up their time to run a workshop on the day. We all lead busy lives and weekends are precious however I have been disappointed at the response to offer a workshop. We need you! Please help!<\/p>\n
