It has been lovely speaking to the children this week and finding out all about their holiday adventures. Some have travelled far and wide and others have enjoyed spending time at home with family and friends. Please do post pictures on Dojo for the children to share with the rest of the class.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, our Year 6 mathematicians flew off to Kuala Lumpur to compete in the Association of International Malaysian Schools (AIMS) maths challenge. The event is organised annually by AIMS schools, with\u00a0two main goals.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The first is to give young mathematicians a chance to challenge themselves against others in academic competition\u00a0and to represent their school doing so. Schools enter one or more teams who then take part in a wide range of different puzzles, tests,\u00a0and\u00a0maths-based challenges across the two days. The second (and equally important) purpose is for children to have fun and enjoy meeting\u00a0people from different schools across Malaysia. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

In assembly on Friday, Mrs Fletcher announced the details of an exciting competition that all Primary children can get involved in. Mrs Fletcher asked the children to design a Sabah animal house mascot that can represent Sulug, Sapi and Gaya. After assembly the children voted for their favourite animal (sun bear, elephant, orangutan, shark or turtle) and on Monday the votes will be counted and the most popular animals announced as the mascot for each house. After assembly the children listened to Dr Wong Siew Te from the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre talk about the problems that these beautiful animals are encountering in their natural habitat. Next week David McCann from Scuba Junkies and Simon Enderby from Scubazoo.tv will talk to the children about Sabah wildlife and the work that they are doing within Borneo to help endangered animals. We hope that these talks will inspire designs for the competition. Please encourage your budding artists to get to work on their creative artwork.<\/p>\n

Last term unfortunately a number of children were accidentally hurt by footballs in the playground. As a result I have decided that children will be unable to play football on the playground when they come to school first thing in the morning. I have asked the Student Council to have a fresh look at our playground rules and responsibilities and will share their feedback with you soon.<\/p>\n
