Dear KIS Community,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Welcome back after your break. Your children may have mentioned we had a visit from the Bomba (Fire Brigade) on Tuesday and they observed our evacuation procedures. I was very pleased to hear that the Bomba were impressed and more than satisfied with our whole school evacuation. We will continue to practice our emergency protocols throughout the year as usual.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wednesday morning, the school shone bright as we celebrated Deepavali. Many thanks to Balvinder and the PTASC for organising our celebration and arranging for students to upcycle old CDs. A wonderful way to recognise cultures within our school and support the environment through recycling. Three of our primary students (Amy, Jaxson and Kelvin from Y5) met with our guest of honour from the Malaysia Hindu Sangam (Sabah), Dr Rajendran, and explained the significance of the CDs and Deepavali. The decorations will be kept for future years and will shine again next Deepavali.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wednesday afternoon saw the arrival of former KIS Principal, Stuart McLay, who is also now the Director of Accreditation at CIS. It was an opportunity for me to meet and collaborate and for Stuart to re-visit the school he helped shape as we see today. Many staff came to say hello and share fond memories.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Whilst the school shone brightly on Wednesday, the atmosphere on Thursday turned much darker as we entered into the scary school day. So many wonderful costumes and so much effort and imagination from students and staff (as well as a parent or two). Well done to all for their creativity and thought. The evening festivities were very well received. Well done to the school council and charity committee for organising the spectacular spooky night for Years 6 and above. I believe everyone had a great fright, sorry, night.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If that wasn\u2019t enough for one week, the secondary school had their annual sport\u2019s day on Friday. This was a tremendous day of competition and bravado. Thank you to our PE Department and teachers who, as usual, provided fantastic assistance and support; not forgetting the Primary House Captains helping out through the day. Thank you to our parents who were able to come and cheer and see the many school records broken through the day. Special mention to the PTASC for keeping us all hydrated.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

An incredible well done to Grace in Year 8 for helping to organise the 2nd Global Warming Project hosted at the KIS Hall on Friday. This was a great opportunity for people across KK and beyond to gather and share in the united belief of making our environment a better place for now and for the future. Whilst mentioning student achievement, you can read in the Community Section about the success of Celine in Y7, at the International Space School Education Training X Mission Discovery competition in Singapore. We are very proud of her achievements.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Next week, we are hosting our book fair throughout the week. Parents and students will be able to visit the MPR before, during and after school to see the selection of books. All books sold will also generate new books for the school libraries, so pop along and choose a book. Also next week sees the Year 9 options talk for parents and an opportunity for Year 10 parents to meet the teachers; please check your emails.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If you have been around Sutera Harbour or KK Centre this past week, you may have noticed more people around than usual. This was due to the EARCOS (East Asia Regional Council of Schools) conference bringing nearly 1500 educational leaders and associated companies together. Mrs Renshaw and Mrs Smith were in attendance and, combining with the end of next week, I will be at the FOBISIA leadership conference in Macau, we hope to look at ways global leadership can support us here at KIS in our vision for nurturing global citizens.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Finally, a huge congratulations to Ms Indah (BM teacher) and her family on the birth of a beautiful baby boy (3.2Kg) on Thursday evening. We all wish Indah and family all the very best.<\/p>\n
