From the Principal 30.01.2021
Saturday 30th January
Dear KIS Community,
Well done to our KIS parents who have nearly made it around Sabah through their exercise and well done to the staff who are not too far behind. However, if we look at the students as one group together, they are clearly in the lead. Another train of thought though, there are far fewer staff compared to students or parents and that would mean per person, the staff rock! Keep up your efforts and also keep an eye out for a set of new challenges coming in February. Thank you to our Head of PE, Ms Watt, for keeping us all motivated and fit.
At time of writing we are still waiting to hear if the MCO will be extended beyond the 4th or if different measures will be introduced. We will of course keep you informed of any changes to school and how your children are currently accessing their learning.
Perhaps of interest has been some recent research from schools in the USA and also internationally. Studies completed on Covid-19 transmission through face to face lessons has shown that transmission in schools is very minimal. In other words, whilst some schools have had cases of Covid-19 amongst their students and staff, having face to face lessons does not increase transmission of Covid-19 within a community and cases within schools are brought in from outside of the schools rather than caught from being inside the school.
With precautions such as physical distancing and mask wearing, research shows that transmission from schools to the community is negligible. I know that many of you will be reading various articles and if you have any research based evidence you would like to share, please do feel free to pass on articles of interest, I would be happy to read.
As always, stay safe and have a lovely weekend,
Ian Gross
