From the Eco Warriors 12.03.2022
KIS will be having our own KIS Earth Hour on Friday 25th March from 9am to 10am where we will be turning off all the electricity in school!
Why? What is Earth Hour?
Earth Hour is one hour that aims to bring the world’s attention to climate change, increase awareness and start global conversations on how to protect nature and try to stop the global climate crisis.
But Earth Hour is more than just an Hour for the planet – it’s a movement for our future.
Hopefully it makes others think about the planet and the environment.
When is it?
Saturday March 26th 2022 @ 8:30pm
Where is it?
Across the world
When did it start?
It started in 2007 but even after 15 years of ‘Earth Hour’ the climate crisis still exists and is being made worse by the rapid loss of biodiversity and nature!
Nature provides us with food, water, clean air and is our strongest ally against climate change BUT the global loss of nature due to humans over the last 50 years is more than any other time in history!
Who started it?
Earth Hour was started by the World Wildlife Fund WWF and various partners in Sydney, Australia
Since then, it has grown to involve millions of supporters in more than 185 countries and territories, inspiring individuals and organizations worldwide to take action for the environment, and driving major legislative changes by harnessing the power of the crowd.
What happens?
Everyone switches off their lights – and any other electrical appliances if possible – for ONE HOUR. This is a symbol of a broader commitment toward nature and our planet.
Across the world some of the most important and well known buildings such as the Sydney Opera House, the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal and Big Ben are lit up every night! As well as office blocks and lots of other buildings. During Earth Hour, all the lights are switched off! Or at least we really hope they will be…
Please watch this year’s Earth Hour video and take part in the greatest global hour that we can all join in and commit to!

You can also take a look at the Earth Hour website for some great things to do during Earth Hour and none of them involve computers, phones or the TV!
Don’t forget KIS Earth Hour on the 25th (9am to 10 am) and Earth Hour on the 26th (830pm to 930pm).
Remember our planet!
