KIS Students Celebrate Kaamatan

On Friday the KIS community welcomed staff from the Monsopiad Cultural Village to the school to perform the various traditional dances of the Pesta Kaamatan (Harvest Festival). Students, staff and parents enjoyed this highly entertaining display including the famous Sumaza and Magunatip dances. Many students were keen to try their skills at the “Bamboo Dance”,  leaping in and out of the clapping bamboo poles while the music from the gongs increased in tempo.

Students from across the school made an effort to come to school dressed in traditional Sabahan costumes and were treated to a delicious MUFTI Day Lunch organised by the PTA. Local kuih (Malay cakes) were devoured as part of a locally inspired menu.

The PTA did a wonderful job organising this special day and the funds raised were collected for the families of the mountain guides affected by the recent earthquake. A grand total of RM 4,363 was raised, as well as an overwhelmingly generous number of donations of soft toys, sleeping bags and tents for the families in Kampung Kiau.
