DofE Students Explore Gaya Island

DofE Students Explore Gaya Island

Twenty six new entrants to the Duke of Edinburghโ€™s International Award, and a number of staff, spent last Saturday being introduced to the delights (and hard work) of this highly regarded award. Starting with a boat ride out to Gaya Island, participants then trekked across the Island, learning about local fauna and flora and getting accustomed to the โ€˜hardshipsโ€™ of jungle trekking. They all showed great resolve and teamwork to complete the trek with smiles on their faces.

After two hours of trekking the participants were able to relax with some lunch and then experience the Coral Flyer โ€“ the breathtaking zip wire between Gaya island and Sapi island, followed by swimming and snorkeling to complete a great dayโ€™s activity.

A great start for all participants on their new adventure and great preparation for the exciting times ahead.
