Penampang U12s Swimming Competition

Penampang U12s Swimming Competition

Last weekend members of our KIS Stingrays Swimming Team joined the annual Penampang Under 12’s Swimming Competition. This popular event on the competitive swimming calendar saw over 200 swimmers from Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Miri compete over two days in a range of events. Nine students represented KIS in a series of races, both individual and relays. Races included 25m breaststoke, 50m freestyle, 25m butterfly and 25m backstroke. All our swimmers put in their very best effort and many left the competition with new Personal Best times. The students were well supported by their families and the PE Staff, providing perhaps the loudest and most enthusiastic cheerleading skills of the spectators!

Despite its competitive nature, the event had a friendly and supportive atmosphere where swimmers from different swimming clubs cheered on one another and there were even opportunities for teams to mix for some of the relay events. Thor Jakobsen and Sofian Abdul Rahman joined forces with another swimming club in the Medlay and Freestyle relays and secured themselves bronze and silver medals after a strong team effort.
