Assemblies
Each Primary class presents a ‘Family Assembly’ at least once a year to which all parents are invited. Parents are also invited to special Secondary assemblies at different times during the year.

Communication with the School
Primary parent-teacher meetings take place each term and Secondary parent-teacher meetings take place twice a year for each class. Parents are also encouraged to make appointments through the school office to see staff at any time during the year should they have concerns or queries about their son or daughters education. Teachers may also contact parents if they are concerned about the behaviour or progress of a student. The Homework Diary (Primary) and Personal Organiser (Secondary) are good means of communication between school and home.

parent02.jpgCurriculum Information
At the beginning of every term, parents of Secondary students are sent a brief outline of the curriculum for all subjects. Topic Talks for the parents of Primary children also take place at the beginning of every term and are excellent opportunities to stay informed about teaching and learning plans and issues.

Testing and Assessment
Testing and Assessment are vital aspects of our teaching, providing information about what a student has learnt and about future steps which need to be taken. As such, all teachers use continuous assessment to inform their teaching. The Primary School also uses a series of standardised tests for students during the academic year. UK National Curriculum End of Key Stage Tests are taken at the end of Year 2 and Year 6 and National Curriculum Optional Tests are taken during the intervening years. In the Secondary School Year 7 and Year 8 students take the National Curriculum Optional End-of-Year tests in English and Mathematics and Year 9 pupils sit the End of Key Stage 3 National Tests in Mathematics, English and Science, as well as completing the on-line INSIGHT assessments. Year 11 students sit Cambridge IGCSE examinations and CLAiT assessments. Full internal school examinations for Secondary students take place at the end of each academic year, whilst Year 11 students take IGCSE mock examinations in January. Students throughout the school receive homework. Homework is as an integral and essential part of the school’s academic programmes and consolidates and extends the work of the classroom. Secondary students have Personal Organisers which they are expected to take with them to all classes and in which they record the homework set.

parent03.jpgHouses
Students are placed in Gaya House (red), Sapi House (yellow) or Sulug House (blue). The House system is used to run sporting competitions and the House point competitions. In the latter, students may be awarded House points for a wide range of reasons, incorporating work or effort, helpfulness or courtesy. Students are awarded individual certificates when they have gained a certain number of House points as detailed below;

Gold        120
Silver       80
Bronze    40

Reports
Primary students receive reports each term. Secondary students receive a grade card twice a term. The Secondary assessments are used to report Effort (A – E) and Attainment (1 – 5) grades to students and parents. The grades recorded on the grade cards are used to monitor the performance of students over the course of the year. Secondary students also receive a full report at the end of the academic year. All reports are issued to parents in special folders, which are then placed in sealed envelopes. Parents are also asked to sign and return a form to confirm receipt of the report.

School Uniform and PE Kit
All students are expected to wear the correct school uniform at all times.  Other than a single pair of stud earrings for girls, jewellery is not to be worn. Nail polish and makeup are not permitted. Shirts should be worn tucked in by Secondary students. When students attend PE lessons, they should wear a shirt in their House colour and the KIS PE shorts, together with a school cap and trainers. Students must wear sports kit for any after-school sports clubs or events. This does not have to be a House shirt and shorts but it must be suitable sports attire.

Swimming Lessons
All Primary students from Foundation 2 upwards have a swimming session once a week for at least two terms of the school year. All students are expected to attend these sessions as swimming is an essential life skill. All Secondary students are expected to take part in the swimming programme in Term 2. Any absence requires a note and prolonged absence requires a doctors’ note.
