A race against the clock to win the right to support the rehabilitation of the capital of Haiti was the backdrop to what proved to be a challenging, but inspirational project for our Year 9 and Year 10 students. After getting to grips with the issues following the recent disaster in the area caused by a severe earthquake, six teams of students were faced with the demanding task of creating an NGO, formulating a proposal based on strict budgets and occasionally changing parameters and then presenting the proposal to a panel of 'experts' representing the UN. There was a small amount of guidance and advice on hand from other 'experts' in the fields of business and markerting, but essentially the groups were on their own and under pressure to make their ideas and research count towards a successful bid. Each of the groups completed their task,but we won't know the winner until Friday afternoon after the judges have completed their deliberations.....
