Dear Visitor,
If you have navigated this far, you obviously have quite an interest in our school, so let me tell you a bit about it, and why I care the way I do about what we do for children at KIS. My wife and I have had three children go through this school since 2003. One is now safely ensconced in University, one leaves shortly after completing her IGCSEs, and our third little one is only in Yr 2 and has a ways to go. I have been on the Board of Management now for six years, and the last three years I have served as the Chairman - quite an honour, but also quite a demanding task, as I have come to find out. The Board provides overarching direction for school development, and leaves academics safely in the hands of the professionals: our staff and senior leadership.
The school has to be one of the best things that has ever happened to my children. The two elder ones have grown up here, and decided on their futures here. Our youngest had her first day of school here, and loves the place to this day. They have all been inspired, challenged, loved, praised, appraised carefully, and most importantly they have been part of an extended family of some 250 other children and parents. When we have been unavailable to collect one of them from school, several offers magically appeared from other families. When we have needed to travel, someone was always ready to take a child in to help out. In times of crisis, everyone at school has banded together.
Academically the school’s track record of high grades in all subjects as our children sit international exams speaks for itself. But it is not just academics which makes KIS what it is. Teachers run after-school clubs which are always oversubscribed. Imagine that – children wanting to stay longer in school! I would also point out that we have a school full of some of the most polite children in the world. The degree of respect that exists between children and teachers, all staff really, not just the teachers, is staggering. Similarly, the trust and respect amongst the staff and the senior leadership is extraordinary.
KIS is growing at a steady rate, allowing us to attract better and more qualified staff, with new ideas, philosophies and the latest in teaching standards. As we grow, we also have the option to grow wisely. We have new buildings with state-of-the-art learning aids, better laboratories, better library facilities, and a surge in IT support.
If I had the choice again, I would not hesitate to opt for a school which embodies all these wonderful KIS traits. We’re not the largest school out there, but then we know all students by name. We know most parents, and have easy access to school staff. It is really a joy to see the young ones playing happily in the playground at breaks, and you know it has to be good when children refuse to stay home.
Enjoy browsing through the rest of our website, and do contact us should you not find the answers to questions you may have about us here at KIS.
I hope to welcome you personally one day,

Nicolas Pilcher
