What are IGCSE’s?
IGCSE stands for International General Certificate of Secondary Education. IGCSEs are normally 2 year courses. The questions and content of IGCSEs tend to be more internationally flavoured than the UK based GCSE courses. The school is registered as an approved centre with Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). The IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds, recognised by leading universities and employers worldwide.
Support and information in making the selection
At Kinabalu International School we are pleased to offer our Year 10 and Year 11 IGCSE students a wide range of subject choices.
All Year 9 students will be required to select their IGCSE subjects during their third term. During this important process, students will be supported by their teachers and parents to help them choose a broad range of subjects in order not to restrict their further education and career choices.
A broad range of subjects
In Key Stage 4, the following subjects are compulsory:
Bahasa Malay OR French
PE – Non IGCSE
Students will then get to choose five options from the following subjects, one of which must be a science:
Optional subjects (of which 4 must be selected, including one science)
Art & Design
In addition Mandarin IGCSE can be taken as part of our Extra Curricular programme.
Further information on all the above subjects is available in our ‘Choosing your Options’ booklet, which you can download here:
