Heroic Book Week Events
KIS students, staff and parents recently enjoyed a wide range of activities and events that emphasised the importance and enjoyment of literature during the schoolโs annual Book Week. Highlights of the week included guest story-tellers, a wonderful mixture of costumes and guises worn during the colourful Book Week Character Parades, animated stories being shared between the Secondary and Primary students and an evening of bedtime stories for many of the Primary students which completed a week to remember.
The school welcomed local author and illustrator, Jainal Amambing into the school on Friday 10th February, where he spent time with students across the school sharing stories, conducting workshops on developing their writing skills and talking to students about his illustration work.
Mrs Frances Colbeck, the schoolโs Teacher Librarian commented: โEncouraging a love of reading helps to develop our brains, not just to be better students and learners, but also to be better people. Our Book Week theme this year is ‘Heroes’, so we’ve had time to learn about the world’s real life heroes, as well as the fictional ones, and also to help us think about how we could be heroic, perhaps in smaller ways, to make life better for others.โ
